"Double" (imperial) wheat stout.
This imperial really strikes back. From a strange country far, far away, comes the only Imperial Wheat Stout in the known universe. Once again, the ’Hand’ brewery - four guys brewing in their spare time, on an absurdly small scale - boldly goes where no brewery has gone before.

Smak och doft av kaffe, choklad. Veteölskänsla, stor sötma, rund och len eftersmak samtidigt som det finns någon konstig krämig och stickighet. Annorlunda.

Flaske fra polet, batch 538 (brygget 051112): meget flott skum i mitt Duvel-glass. Nesten kullsort farge.

50 cl bottle @ home. Batch #122: brewed 12/2007, BBE 12/2011. Rated on 18.06.2010
Aroma has coffee, well roasted malt, very dark chocolate and licorice. Flavour is rather roasted with coffee notes, licorice, dark chocolate, ashy notes and hints of cocoa. Good!

[Thanks to Cunningham]. 50cl bottle. Batch 449. Black colour with a tan head with an average duration. Aroma is toasty, roasty and light red fruits. Flavor has burnt malts notes, roasty, malty, light caramel. The final has roasted malts hints, slightly bittery and dark coffee; with a long aftetaste with black coffee notes. Dense on palate, it has an average carbonation and a full body.

16.9oz bottle. Opaque brown-black with a massive rusty beige head. Nto so sure about the aroma, a little chalky. Tastes sort of like it would have been better without the wheat. Huge chocolate tones, but some underlying offness?, maybe the bottle is old? Batch 383. I’d guess it is mildly infected, but the big rich specialty malt sugariness makes it acceptable. The wheat shows itself in a dry, earthy way..not really a bonus. An unsuccessful tweaking to a style they can nail.

Thick, oily, creamy. Bitter, roasted aroma. Flavour is bitter with coffee and cocoa coming through but it does seem to retain a degree of lightness and drinkability from the wheat.

Cask at the Borefts beer festival. This is probably my favourite beer of 2012, however, this was my first cask Dark Force. It pours dark mahogany with a long-lived thin tan head. It has a big roasted malt and chocolate aroma which is reflected in the flavour with the addition of a liquorice bitter taste on the palate. There seems more consistency in the bottled version, but on cask it’s an awesome ale too. If you have not tried it, I urge you to track it down.
