Historically the term used to describe a porter blended from a variety of ales, entire butt uses 14 different malts and 3 hops to recreate this forgotten style of porter. The beer is black/brown with a crisp white head and is distinctly vinuous. It has little hop character as essentially the flavour is derived from the malts. Malts used: pale Maris Otter, lager, wheat, pale crystal, dark crystal, dark chocolate, pale chocolate, black, roasted barley, caramalt, torrified wheat, amber malt, brown malt and malted oats.

Cask at Shrewsbury Arms, Stafford. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a sizable foamy cream head and good lacing. There’s malts and chocolate in the aroma. In the mouth it is basically sweet, but with a little added bitterness. Main flavours are a deep rich maltiness and some dark fruits and lactose. Plenty of other tastes come through eventually to some degree – coffee, gingerbread, spice and plums. Finish is somewhat sweet and slightly fruity. This is rather nice !

Dark brown with a creamy tan head and a soft roasted malt and chocolate aroma. Smooth and creamy, notes of treacle on top of roasted malt, a hint of chocolate, some coffee bitterness and a dry finish.

Bottle shared @ Proeflokaal Delft. Roast and ash in the aroma. Thin. Roasty flavor with malted milk. Just a hint of cinnamon. This beer has an amazing drinkability.

330 ml bottle into pint glass, bottled on 10/24/2014. Pours crystal clear deep reddish brown color with a 1-2 finger dense and fluffy light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of caramel, toffee, milk chocolate, cocoa, brown sugar, molasses, toasted brown bread, light coffee/nuttiness, plum, apple, herbal, wood, light pepper, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop/fruity yeast notes; with good strength. Taste of caramel, toffee, milk chocolate, cocoa, brown sugar, molasses, toasted brown bread, light coffee/nuttiness, plum, apple, herbal, wood, light pepper, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/spicy hop and roast bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toffee, brown sugar, molasses, milk chocolate, cocoa, toasted brown bread, nuttiness, herbal, wood, and yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; with a great roast/hop bitter/sweet balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from hop/roast bitterness as well. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, fairly creamy/grainy, and sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Zero alcohol warming as expected of 4.8%. Overall this is a very nice English porter style. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. A very enjoyable offering.
