To make Surly Wet we took 1,400 lbs of hops picked freshly in Oregon and shipped to Minnesota immediately. We brewed this beer three days later. This is a hop forward beer, dry with subdued malt flavors. 2009 vintage: 50% Simcoe, 50% Citra hops

12 oz draft snifter, Bavarian Lodge. Reddish amber color, clingy, rough IPA type head. Majpr citrus and pine hop smell, even though the glass seems kind of cold. Hops in the taste are… Simcoe? The 3 C’s? Even their website won’t say. Whatever, they expectedly bold, a bit catty, but mostly pine cones and grapefruit. Resiny coating is a little thinner than other fresh IPAs, and the green hops character appears only halfway down. There is some malty backbone, even some sweetness, but it’s very respectful of hop dominance. If you like to taste hops in your burps afterward, this is ideal.

Draft at Darkness Day: Pours a true copper color with a finger of creamy sand colored head. Sticky lacing. Aroma is thick with citrus and florals. Rich and sweet. Flavor is grapefruit, citrus, resin, and light florals. Just full of hop melodies, but the citrus and tropical fruitiness really stands out. Delicious.

Tap @ Darkness day. Nice thick orange color, cannot see through it. Has a strong head on top. As advertised, it is a hop forward brew but not the way I like my hops. The bitterness is strong throughout and the hops are a mix of green vines, some sweet hops, and some light citrus. Its not as dry and attenuated as I like my hoppy beers and the hops are not centered on a particular area for my tastes.
