A unique brew reminiscent of an English bitter, with a light amber color and lots of hop character. It is made from the second runnings of our Old Foghorn mash. Anchor Small revives the ancient brewing tradition of creating two distinct craft beers from one mash. We sprinkle warm water over the Old Foghorn mash after the first “wort” has run off, creating a second, lighter brew. Technically, both beers are "ales" because they are made with top-fermenting yeast. The result is an easy-drinking “session” beer.

Clear amber with a medium beige head. Aroma had hops, fruits, malt and piney notes. Flavour was quite dry with plenty of hops, pine, grapefruits and hints of rubber. Finished bitter.

Tap at the Beer Temple, Amsterdam on 19th March 2010. Barman asked me "are you sure you want this one" before serving it! Clear gold with lasting white head. Yeasty aromas then flavour is dominated by a metallic, rusty note. Some citric tingling on the tongue before a finish that is sharp, acidic and metallic. Rescued somewhat by its zingy mouthfeel, but I was glad I only had to taste this once.

American Bar in Amsterdam ...very pale yellow ... small tight foam head ... light soft hop nose ... soft musty toffee malt ... dull bitter linger.

Bottle. Pours with a large, off-white head and a clear amber brown body. Aroma of grain, honey biscuit and caramel. Taste is off...sour, lactic, with biscuit malt, a strong astringent bitterness, and just overall, quite weird. Medium bubbles, dry mouthfeel.

Bottle. Pretty, glowing, amber color. Light caramel malt aroma. Light palate, with big bitterness, good hops, and light caramel malt flavor. Hugely bitter finish lasts a long time. Light and refreshing--works well for the light style.

Pours light copper color with white head. Faint grainy aroma. Mild hop bitterness. Light to medium body with average carbonation. Not much going on, but pretty good for what it is.

Clear gold with a soapy head - a dry, bitter session ale, with some bready malt to keep it from being overly so - crackery, flinty, lightly earthy, with a bit of toasted malt character - I’m a big fan of super dry beers, so I’m actually quite a fan of this, even if there isn’t very much going on - I’d pick other bitters or milds over this one, but I wouldn’t mind downing a few pints of it.

[9/11/09] Draught at Beer Temple in Amsterdam. Golden color. Aroma of slightly grainy malt and some citric hoppy hints. Sweetish malty flavor, finishes bitter and hoppy. Light-medium body.

On tap at Beer Temple. Light amber orange colour, creamy white head. Aroma of malts, light caramel and citric hops. Flavour is light toasted malts, bit of caramel, good floral and light grapefruity bitterness. Lacks a bit of body, but is very refreshing and highly drinkable.

From tap at the brewery. Pours hazy orange with a small white head. Aroma is light cornish. Flavour is light malty and crisp hoppy. Mild bitter and dry flavoured finish.
