Rookop is a brown, top-fermented ale formerly brewed by the St.-Joris brewery in the village of Reningelst until 1963. We were asked to bring the most famous beer of this former brewery back to life and made it a dubbel-style ale brewed with Admiral and Golding hops, fruity and sweet with some chocolate notes.
Our Rookop was brewed for the first time on May 5, 2012.

330ml bottle from Vanuxeem. Pours a deep hazy brown, small pale tan head. Aroma has caramel and nutty dark malts. Taste brings to mind a lightly sweet cassonade-tinged Belgian dubbel, with some caramel dunkel notes and a little soft cocoa. Not bad.

Bottle in poperinge. Brown color big beige head. Aroma if caramel and roastwd malts with a decent hoppiness. Smooth as a dunkel, malty breadu with a chocolate edge. Very smooth, creamy texture. Simple dark belgian ale but quite nice.

Clear amber brown colour, small frothy beige head, receding slowly, fair lacing. Mild aroma, toasted malts, caramel, dark fruits, candy sugar. Mild taste, medium sweet and bitter, malty, light toffee, brown sugar, spicy notes. Short mild sweetbitter finish, medium body, watery to oily texture, soft carbonation. Could use a bit more body but overall a pleasant mild brown ale.

Bottle kindly shared by Rubin77 at a tasting in his flat. Lots of fruitiness, dark fruits, raisins. Thin bodied and well drinkable. Not too complex yet not too simple. Good one.
