Tap at the brewery - really an APA, and a pretty clean and decent one - clean, crisp malt structure - medium dry and Biscuity - hops are a little subdued, but pleasantly grassy and citric - peppery finish - nice quaffer.

Sampler at the brewpub. Definitely no butter in this batch. Pale gold to dark hay color. Aroma is muted hops, a mix bag, a little bit of this and that but nothing in particular stands out. Malt is a bit dusty. Flavor is similar with a moderate-mild bitterness coming through. Finish comes fast and easy. This is a decent Golden/APA hybrid (frankly, if I were to reenter this beer I would put it in as an APA). I just wish the hops were more directive.

(10/9/08) Draught sample at the brewpub in Chicago. Clear golden. Aroma has some malt and light hoppiness. Sweetish flavor with a bit of caramel that turns into hoppy bitterness with some light citrus. Medium-bodied. Not bad.

Original rating, 2/20/04. Draft. Surprisingly hoppy for a “starter” beer. It’s now described at RB as an American Pale Ale, and so it is. Not fruity like a Sierra Nevada, but good sharp bite of Northwesrtn hops. Typical Pale Ale brown color and thin heads.
Rating from cask, 2/24/12 A much different beast on cask. Big on hop aroma right off the top of the sampler. I’m told by the server the current hop is the Falcon’s Flight mixture. Gold color, hazy with a thin scrum of foam. Taste carries on with pine and resin hops. The palate is a tad thin as it goes with a cask beer. If you can score it on cask, my rating as 8/4/7/3/15 for a total of 3.7.
