Donker kruidig degustatiebier.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a fast-dying tan head, about a centimetre tall. Aroma of pit fruits, raisins, caramel, malt, alcohol, whiskey, vanilla and some rye - nice and pungent. Full-bodied; Very rich, earthy, pungent, spicey, whiskey, juniper berries, leathery, smokey, tea-flavoured and a kick of hay on the finish - all over the map, and in a good way. Aftertaste shows the deep complexity at the centre of it all, with a rye, whiskey and grain flavour that permeates, but nuances around the bend with caster sugar, molasses, sorghum and even some brown rice noticeable. Overall, an interesting and very complex beer, throughout all layers of this one. Not as bad as I was expecting from the scores, but even knowing the scores, I was waiting to drink this one for some unknown reason. I sampled this stubby, typically belgian, 33 cL bottle purchased from The Bottle Shop in Bruges, Belgium on 14-August-2013 for €2,95 sampled back at home in Washington on the other side of the Atlantic, just over a year after purchase. Lot #00110226 (on the bottle cap) 07-June-2015 (best by?)

Bottled@HBF2014. Hazy deep amber colour, small white head. Aroma is fruity, mildly spicy along with some metallic notes. Also some yeast and herbs to it. Flavour gets quite similar, and gets much bolder when pouring the yeast in. Felt kind of thin and "empty" without yeast. Thin and alcoholic without the yeast, but quite balanced and bodied with the yeast in.

(Bottle, 0.33 l, at HBF2014) The beer poured brown and cloud. Aroma had sweetness, plum and liquorice. Palate was medium bodied and warming with medium carbonation. Flavours were sweetness, yeast, saltiness and bitterness. Aftertaste was yeasty and bitter. Not a good beer. Messy and too sweet.
