Donker kruidig degustatiebier.

8th Feb 2015: on-tap in The Red Rose (Brugge). Dark brown body with a red hue to the edges, on top a beige topping. Malty molasses fill the nose, fairly sweet with caramel esters being the main aroma, some fruitness and yeast hints too. The taste similar with a semi-sweet malty front which leads to a mildly dry finish with a trace of bitterness. Decent.

Opaque reddish brown beer, good tan head. Palate is airy and semi dry. Smooth malts with dry creamy sweetness. Light cinnamon. Fruity Coca Cola. Little tangy caramel. Smooth semi dry finish. Comes together quite well.

From a bottle bought in Brugge. Pours a hazy chestnut brown with full brown head. Head has a murkiness to it. Chocolate, caramel and toffee aromas. Taste is sticky sweet - with chocolate and molasses. Very thin mouthfeel and alcohol not present. Not terribly complex for a quad and just overly sweet. Has a fizzy carbonation to it.

Bottle courtesy of Deanso. Poured a clear dark brown with a thin broken light tan head. The aroma is sweet malt, boozy alcohol. The flavour is medium sweet, light bitter with a rich malt alcoholic liqourice hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Fort Lapin’s second beer, with yellowish beige, creamy, stable head and dark brownish bronze colour, cloudy. Aroma of bitter chocolate, nuts, lemon zest, coffee grounds, thyme, minerals, pear, cognac and some phenols. Dates and nuts in the taste, spicy notes, light roasted bitterness, some leafy hops and whisky-like alcohol in the finish, but unfortunately a lot of solvents too, rendering it a bit wry. My expectations weren’t already too high considering their tripel and this failed to surprise me.
