They say there’s no such thing as a free meal – but as you wind your way through wooded hills towards the tiny village of Cranborne, you might chance upon a charming rogue who says differently.

For years, the Cranborne Poacher has roamed these parts, outwitting both authority and prey in pursuit of pilfered plums and a pheasant for his pot.

Crystal and chocolate malts provide a full-bodied taste with sweet, complex flavours of damson and liquorice.

50cl bottle from Alko. Poured amber in color, dense white head. Cranberries with sugar crust, toffee, malts, licorice and some minerally notes. Weird but drinkable.

Bottle from Sainsburys. Pours a chestnut colour with a large thick creamy off white head. Fruity sweet aromas of red berries, strawberry jam, toffee and doughy bread. Taste is quite unusual with a lot more of the red berry notes, raspberries and blueberries. Some added leathery notes and very malty. The sweetness is balanced out well with a subtle earthy hop on the lingering finish. Full body with low almost flat carbonation and a very smooth mouthfeel. it’s ok and a unique winter time beer but i wouldn’t want to drink more than a couple at a time.

500ml bottle from Vinmonopolet Aker Brygge. Good looking with a deep copper coloured body, beige head, and curtains on the glassware. Inviting smell of dark berry skins and earthy malts. Fine blended taste of plums, dark berries, and caramel malts followed by a smooth, dry malt-berry-fruity ending, mid-sweet. Good depth to it. Like it. (Hotel room, Oslo 17.04.2023).

Pours mahogany, decent head. Aroma of...I'm not really sure its quite complex. Take your pick out of raspberry, cherry, plum, damson, cranberry, blueberry, blackberry. Maybe all of them. A chocolatey malt is also evident in the background. Taste also has a complex fruit and strong malt base. Its slightly too sweet but not to the extent of that other Badger marmite beer 'Blandford Fly'. Slightly syrupy beer and low carbonation. The finish is a battle between sweet and bitter with the sweetness winning out. Not quite balanced. A flawed strange beer but it grew on me. There is the basis of something great here but they didn't pull it off.

Creamy off white head stayed on reddish brown still body. Red berry & spiced aroma. Medium bodied, nicely carbonated over the tongue with a smooth creamy back. Malt, blackcurrant, jam & spicy tastes with a peppery finish. Nice.
