The Mc Chouffe is an unfiltered dark beer (such as scotch).
Full of character, Mc CHOUFFE delights lovers of dark beer all over the world. Its distinctive flavour, its dark ruby colour and its fine creamy head make it a unique beer. Mc CHOUFFE is also characterised by its spicy aniseed and liquorice flavours, superbly complemented by full-bodied caramel notes. Despite its robustness, Mc CHOUFFE is surprisingly smooth. It even reveals delicious fruity notes, especially pear, as well as a very slight hint of bitterness at the end of the palate. With its 8% alcohol content, like LA CHOUFFE, Mc CHOUFFE is appreciated with the same lightness as its big blond sister.

Sample at Winking Lizard. Dark brown color with a medium thick frothy light beige head that dissipates gradually. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of malt, caramel and yeast. Medium-bodied with flavors of earthy yeast, roast malt and dark fruits. The finish is fruity with a yeast aftertaste. Decent overall.

2000 Vintage @ Shrewsbury Beer Share, May 15, many thanks to Mike! Forgotten about in the cellar of his old house. A bit dusty and slug-eaten with little of the label remaining. The first half of the bottle was nice and rich with a rosier malt flavours and a slight woody touch. A few cobwebs but on the whole a real pleasure to taste a 15 year aged version of this. 330ml bottle from Les Crepes de Sophie, Shrewsbury. Taste isn’t a million miles away from the standard blond Chouffe, combining dark malts with a sweet flavoursome yeast and powerful rich taste.. very nice indeed.

Pours bubbly, cola-brown with a short, frothy tan head. Toffee, dark fruit scent. Plum, raisin, malt flavor....apple peel. Sweet, with a strong, carbonated body. Slightly spicy. Very nice.

Flasche (75 cl) vom Bierzwerg-Online-Biershop. - Rotbraun.

Test vom 8.3.2008, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 12,9,9,9,13,10 - 9,90

Draft at Churchkey. Poured a pretty clear brown color with a small white head. Aroma was notes of strong malts - caramel notes, herbal hops. Some light fruit notes - a bit boozy fruit in there. Herbal. Brown sugar. Interesting.

Bottle bought some place I don’t remember. Pours murky reddish brown with a rather small frothy and fizzy brown head that quickly dissipates without leaving much trace on the glass. Smell is malty, grainy and slightly fruity with biscuits, oatmeal cookies, banana, sour grapes, cereal, metal, hay and apple cider vinegar. Taste is sour and malty with dark bread, biscuits, sour grapes, hay, dry wood, cereal, red wine vinegar and hints of gastric acid. Mouthfeel is slightly dry, tart, tiny round and medium bodied. Finish is sour with biscuits, red wine vinegar, lemon juice, hay, cereal and soil. Not sure if it’s supposed to be this sour. A rather unbalanced oude bruin...
