Bottle shared by Steve at the September 2010 Metro Detroit tasting, thanks! Poured a cloudy brown with a gray head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma had a nice funky note with a slight menthol note, some spice, hay and a slight fruit note. The tart fruit comes out a bit more on the tongue with some spice and funk as well as a bit of fruit in the finish.

From the Rare Beer Club. Sampled from a 750 ml green corked bottle this beer poured a hazy orange-brown color with a small creamy beige head that produced some lacing. The aroma was tart, sour and very funky with notes of citrus and vinegar underneath. The flavor was dryish and woody with a light musty presence and faint tart citrus and a pervading watery element. The finish was short, tart and watery. Disappointing.

This is an excellent saison. It’s light and very easy to drink. Perfect for a hot day. It has depth of malt flavor, great funky, barnyard yeast and a delicate balance of sweet and tart notes. The mouthfeel is lively and the beer feels full but light on the palate. The beer is a medium brown, transparent until the yeast starts kicking up, with a creamy off-white head. There are plums, apricots, berries, apples, wood, honey and subtle spices bouncing around the beer. It’s more tart/sour than funky, but the funk is there. It smells like partially fermented cider spilled on a clean pile of hay in a barn. Drinks much bigger than the abv. Very good beer.

750 shared by Marcus. Hazy ruddy amber with a slight off-white head. Arom of medium dark fruits with spice/yeast notes. Med. body/mild carb. Flavor is wood/spicy/fruity - but mild and blended. Finishes lightly spiced peach. Drinks really well. Make this my lawnmower beer. Or any other of my beers.

Pours hazy mahogany into a snifter. Off-white head recedes to hug rim and mottle surface. Brett and pepper aromas. Upfront grass and caramel turning slightly spicy and thin in the medium length finish.

750mL split with Tarheels86. What he said. Chestnut color, white head. Aroma of raisins, taste of dates marinated in vinegar. Fantomes are always interesting, aren’t they?
