16 ounce can into snifter, canned on 3/9/2018. Pours slightly hazy deep orange/copper/amber color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky cream colored head with amazing retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Dense soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big golden raisin, grapefruit, orange, peach, plum, pear, apricot, nutty coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, maple syrup, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, brown bread, and biscuit; with lighter notes of coconut, molasses, white chocolate, cocoa, pine, herbal, floral, grass, pepper, and yeast/oak earthiness. Touch of booze in the aromas as it warms, but not overwhelming. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity yeast, maple syrup, coffee, citrus/earthy hops, bourbon barrels, and dark/bready malt notes; with big strength. Taste of big golden raisin, grapefruit, orange, peach, plum, pear, apricot, nutty coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, maple syrup, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, brown bread, and biscuit; with lighter notes of coconut, molasses, white chocolate, cocoa, pine, herbal, floral, grass, pepper, and yeast/oak earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/zest, herbal, floral, grassy, peppery bitterness; and light bourbon/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of golden raisin, grapefruit, orange, peach, plum, pear, apricot, nutty coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, maple syrup, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, brown bread, biscuit, coconut, molasses, white chocolate, cocoa, pine, herbal, floral, grass, pepper, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity yeast, maple syrup, coffee, citrus/earthy hops, bourbon barrels, and dark/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and no cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness and spicy oak. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy, and fairly sticky/tannic mouthfeel that is great. Mildly increasing warmth of 11.8%, with minimal barrel booziness lingering after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic barrel aged American barelywine! All around outstanding complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity yeast, maple syrup, coffee, citrus/earthy hops, bourbon barrels, and dark/bready malt flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the big ABV, with the modestly bitter/tannic/drying finish. Not overly aggressive. Amazing balance of maple syrup, coffee, hops, and rich malts; not overly sweet/heavy from lingering dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and spot on American style example.
