The 2013 Fuller’s Vintage, our 17th edition, is brewed with four of this year’s finest hop varieties: Goldings, Sovereign, Challenger and the trophy-winning Admiral. WIth a dry spring and wet summer, we have chosen a winter barley wich, when combined with our unique yeast, gives a rich and complex result.

Clear copper red beer, big fizzy aery white head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: very fruity, caramel, some tangerines, sugary, pretty sweet. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: fruity hops, citrus, grapefruit, some caramel, little bitter, orange peel, nice bitter hops. Aftertaste: caramel, some sweetness, sugary, bitter, some citrus, bit spicy. Young but very promising.

Bottle, #034778, at Kick. It pours s small, light beige head over a mostly clear looking Amber colored body. The aroma is quite fruity, dried fruits mostly but also some plums and ripe pears. Almost meaty malts, toffee and prunes, and piney hops. Some alcohol. There’s a little warmth in the mouth, it’s full bodied and soft on the palate. A nice bitterness deals with the malty sweetness and dried fruits. A little meaty touch on the flavor too. Cellar is mentioned around the table, I agree with that. Warming, sweet finish with a nice bitterness. Pretty pleasant this one, bet it’s even better in a year or three. 140111

Bottle 500ml (no. 034778) @ Gastropuben KICK Malt & Mat, Kristiansand Pours slightly hazy deep golden with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel, alcohol, dried fruits, earthy and floral. Taste is medium sweet and medium bitter with a long warm, caramel and dried fruity finish. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft

Deep gold with a slight white head and little carbonation. This was tried alongside the 2007 and 2008 versions and came out on top. A touch of caramel, some pleasant fresh hops and a moderately bitter finish. Avoided the heavy, yeasty barley sugar notes of the other two. Enjoyable.

Bottle @ Vinens Verden, Odense. Pours ruby amber with a small creamy head. Fresh hops, biscuit, toffee, caramel. A bit vinous and quite complex. Tasty and well composed. Much better than last year.

Bottle No. 105177. From The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours dark copper with a foamy yellow/beige head. Aromas of malt, darkish fruit and leather. Med + body. Flavor is roasty malt, a little brown sugar, something suggesting dates, notes of peppery spice. Very smooth. Brown sugar tries to come out, but there’s something hoppy that makes it less than sweet. Certainly not dry, but nicely hopped. Very, very good drink.

Bottle from Waitrose Headington, Oxford, consumed at home Sunday 22nd December 2013 This is absolutely superb, top draw stuff from Fullers. We had this alongside a Rochefort 10 and clearly whilst they are not the same beer there were many similarities, its got a nice spicy peppery warmth, its got some lovely dark, dark sticky sugars. Despite its age its smoother at this stage than many of the previous vintages. Serving this in a Belgian chalice certainly didn’t didn’t any harm either, Loz (a big Rochefort 10 fan) was struck by the similarities as well. A little barley sugar, there is also a little curly bitterness, its damn good vintage, loved it! A8 A4 T9 P4 Ov17 4.2

Bottle no 53835. Pours clear amber-red with small very light tan head. The head disappears immediately. It has intense aroma of fruits, apples, sweetness, and hints of alcohol. Taste: strong "fresh" bitter kick, sweet, a little bit fruity, noticeable alcohol. Finish has long a little bit lingering bitterness. Overall: less fruity and less sweet than 2012 version; also it isn’t as well balanced. It may get better after some time.
