This was the first beer to come out of our vats, back in 1985, making it the Brouwerij ‘t IJ classic beer. It is a ‘tripel’, the category reserved for the stronger blonde beers crafted in the Belgian tradition, and Zatte more than lives up to expectations. It’s a full-bodied, golden beer with a scent of fresh fruit mingled here and there with a hint of grain. The flavour is slightly sweet, ending with a fine, dry aftertaste. A delicious classic to be enjoyed in all seasons.

Flesje thuis gedronken. Nasmaak is iets bitter.

Bottle from an Albert Heijn in Ghent. Pours clear pale orange with a diminishing, off-white head. The aroma contains yeast, fruits (orange, mango), hops, grain, malt and bread. It tastes medium to light fruity sweet and light to medium bitter; the finish is hoppy, slightly dry and bready. Medium body, slick texture, fizzy carbonation. A typical IJ beer, so all in all, quite good.

Keg at BD Mighty Boost, 22/09/17. Golden orange with a decent off white head. Nose is tangy citric peel, fruit loaf, grains, straw. Taste comprises caramel, light spice, fruit slice, dried fruits, orange peel. Medium plus body, light spritzy carbonation, hint of warming alcohol in the close. Decent for style ... not runaway sweet and balanced by a tarte fruit edge.

Backlog. Bottle at hamburger joint in Amsterdam. Unclear yellow with a nice white head. Slightly spicy and floral with honey. Lightly sweet with a medium body. Lacks the punch and elegance of the best tripels but this is overall highly enjoyable.
