33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ Hogerdijk, Culemborg. Light golden with a big white head. Fruity aroma (mandarine, orange). taste is bitter-sweet, not as sweet as most other tripels. Nice tripel

* Old rating, best before June 12. Spicy, fruity and slightly yeasty brew. Slightly sweetish, fresh.

Classic abbey tripel, historically linked to Westmalle (the monk on the label depicts a Westmalle trappist monk), even called ’trappistenbier’ before that designation became protected by law. Cream white, dense, thinnish but stable head, pure golden blonde colour, almost clear. Aroma of restrained malt sweetness, grassy hops, raw rhubarb, celery, white pepper, green apple peel, abbey cheese, honey. Smooth, dryish malty taste, subdued applish fruitiness, medium carbo, ending in a peppery hop bitterishness through which a certain, very subtle kind of saltiness pierces. Also tasted at 20 years of age at the Kulminator, my first ever encounter with aged beer, so this remains something special to me. That older version was of course heavily oxidized, but also notably sweeter and less dry than the young version described above.

Tasty tripel, taste like a lively artisinal beer. Yeasty and fruity body, with some herbs, candi and hops.

330 ml bottle into chalice, no bottle dating. Pours moderately cloudy golden amber color with a thin white head with poor retention, that reduces to a thin ring of lace. Minimal lacing on the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of apricot, pear, apple, white grape, clove, pepper, honey, bread, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of malt and fruity/spicy yeast ester notes; with good strength. Taste of pear, apple, apricot, white grape, clove, light pepper, honey, bread, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of pear, apple, apricot, white grape, clove, honey, bread, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast and malt flavors; with a good malt/yeast balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth and moderately crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this was a good tripel. Ins Glas ergießt sich ein trübes goldenes Bier mit schöner Schaumkrone. Geruch malzig süß, alkoholisch, Nüsse, Früchte. Geschmack sehr süß malzig, dunkle Früchte, hefig, leicht alkoholisch.

Hazy pale golden colour, small foamy white head, lasts a while and reduces to thin layer, some lacing. Sweet malty nose, followed by banana, bread, hints of fruit, some dough, grass, citrus, spices notably coriander. Medium sweet and bitter taste with a touch of acidity, bit buttery. Medium body, creamy texture and mouthfeel, soft carbonation, sweetbitter finish, still creamy, some acidity and hints of fruit, well-balanced, very good tripel.
