A hop lover’s delight! In the India pale ale tradition, this brew is very hoppy in both aroma and flavor from the generous amounts of Cascade hops used in brewing. Look for a medium to full body and golden straw color.

Bottle. Mild grapefruit and pine hops aroma. Medium amber color with larger head. Light creamy malt flavor to start with a moderate pine hops finish. For Matt’s, this is pretty good, but overall a fair IPA.

I tasted all three of these Saranac pale yellow beers in my variety case, four beers each; Indian pale ale, Adirondack lager and traditional lager. Price was 88 cents per 12 oz bottle at Beer for Less in Moon Twp. The lagers were a little less pale and the Indian pale ale was just a little more bitter. All three though, I consider a typical American pale yellow beer. They all had about the same over all flavor, that Saranac flavor. They are lively when it comes to carbonation. I’ve had these before and they seem to have not changed over the years. Drinkable. I was really excited about tasting an IPA but was not surprized.

A copper colored beer with an OK beige head. The aroma is quite strong with notes of straw, hops, malt, and caramel. The flavor is sweet and very malty to start off with, but soon the aroma hops hits You with notes of grass, and citrus, on a back drop of caramel, which again leads on to a dry hoppy bitter end still with the citrusy notes lingering around.

Brown bottle, 12 ounces; eye: golden with yellowish reflections, white head that lasts made up of small compact bubbles, light effervescence, clear, some lacing; nose: hops Cascade, sweet side of 7-UP, malt (grain); mouth: not that tasty at the start, bitterness then appears to let its sweetness take over, finale where its aggressive bitterness coms back strongly, lightly sweet, moderately bitter, medium to full body, relatively thin and somewhat oily texture, nice carbonatation; overall: good FRANÇAIS Bouteille brune, 12 onces; oeil : dorée avec des reflets jaunâtres, mousse blanche de bonne durée formée de petites bulles compactes, légère effervescence, clair, dentelle; nez : houblon Cascade, côté sucrée du 7-UP, malt (grain); bouche : pas très goûteuse en début, l’amertume apparaît par la suite, puis cède sa place à son petit côté sucrée, finale où une amertume aggressive revient en force, légèrement sucrée, moyennement amère, corps de moyen à plein, texture relativement mince et légèrement huileuse, bonne carbonatation; en résumé : bonne

Bottled. Slightly hazy, golden beer with a small white head. Citrus, pineapple, hops and malt on the nose. Malty flavor with a good chunk of hops. Some pine and resin too. Medium body and quite bitter finish. Quite good, pleasant IPA, but I would prefer to sample a new beer, instead of drinking it one more time. Rating: 6-3-6-4-13-3.2. 060614
Bottle, at Esbjerg Beerfesetival. A clear, golden beer with an off-white head leaving lacings. Resiny, citrusy nose with bready pale malts. Resiny and citrusy flavor with a bready hint. Bitterness shines through towards the end, and is followed by the bready flavor. A rather anonymous beer, but refreshing. 091022

Thanks to Kevin? Argo0? for this one. Medium gold pour with a creamy tall white head. Fruity citrus aroma. Bitter on the front end dry in the finish. The hop bitterness is a bit coarse and the malt flavor could be a bit fuller. Decent but some of the parts don’t fit in smoothly leaving this one a touch out of balance, but overall, a quite drinkable beer.
