Buff Gold is one of just two bottled ales made by Blindman’s and it encapsulates all that is great about this proper local brewery – toasted gold flavours of hops with some sweet malt balanced with just the right amount of bitter. A fine beer for everyday drinking.

Clear pale golden colour, thin foamy white head, dissipates quickly, minimal lacing. Aroma pear, white grapes, light lemon. Taste light sweet and bitter, light fruity, dusty. Quite thin dry and light citrusy aftertaste, light-bodied, watery texture, flat carbonation, too thin for me.

500ml bottle: BBE Mar 15. Poured into an ’Old Speckled Hen’ badged pint vase in Jan 15. As the name suggests, this is a light golden brew, clean and clear, with a snow white topping that lasted. Light malty sweetness dominated the nose and taste for me, a little one dimensional but nothing offensive or nasty. let’s say OK without testing your taste buds to greatly.

Bottle @benzai. Clear golden colour with a minimal white head. Smells yoghurt, apricot, sweet. Tastes malts, watery, a bit sweet, slightly hoppy. Decent but thin. Very soft carbo.

Bottle @ weekly tasting shared with Dutchdrebus. Clear golden color, small off-white head. Smell and taste malts, slightly some hops, a hint of orange and decently bitter. Average body and carbonation.

500ml bottle form Beers of Europe. Hazy golden pour, thin white head. Aromas of honey and lemon, Lockets, basically. Taste is the same. If I had a bad cough, I’d want to drink this to think I was making it better. As it stands, I’m in good health, and this is a lemony honey-like beer. It’s OK.

50cl bottle thanks to allmyvinyl. Appearance - golden (well, duh!), with gentle carbonation and a head that disappears quite quickly. Nose - honey, malt with a hint of lemon lozenges. Taste - lemon barley water with a spoonful of honey mixed in. Palate - close to medium bodied with a fairly rich texture and a thin watery finish. Overall - it’s alright but wouldn’t buy another.
