The Original Schlenkerla Lentbeer is an unfiltered smokebeer, brewed in accordance with the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516. Bottom-fermenting yeast gives the reddish brown lentbeer a natural cloudiness. Its smoky aroma is already noticeable in the smell, combined with a fine hoppy note. In the drink the fullbodied, highly drinkable lentbeer shows its strong malty flavour, rounded up with the smokey taste and a light bitterness. Due to the nourishing yeast, the Original Schlenkerla Lentbeer has the "Brotzeit already included" (German word for afternoon snack).

Sensory Sessions #9: Cloudy, mahogany color and a nice tan head. Smokey nose, caramel, sweet. Palate is less smokey than expexted. Nice balance of sweetness, malts and smoke.

Aus der Flasche im 2021-04 getrunken. Dieses dunkle Fränkische verströmt eine deutliche Räucherspecknote. Am Gaumen ist es dann aber gar nicht stark geräuchert. Ein Malzaroma rundet das Bier deutlich am Gaumen ab und macht es gut trinkbar.

500ml bottle – Pours a clear coppery amber colour with a large lasting foamy beige head. The aroma is smoky, smoked cured ham, caramel and light roasted malts. The taste is sweet malts and smoke, sweet bready malt, sweet caramel and dry smoky flavours with a smooth sweetish and smoky finish giving a bitterish aftertaste.

Bottle from Geers. Pours hazy dark amber with a stable, frothy, tan head. Aroma of burnt toast, dark toffee, tobacco, wood & lightly burning wood, smoked sausage, bacon, old raisin, prune, dried, almost shriveled red apple. Taste has sweet maltiness of dark toffee, prune & red apple, bitter toasty & sligthly nutty undercurrent, making way for umami & 'burning' smoky, even meaty hints throughout. Woody finish, some earthy hops, lingering smoke, sausage & dried old fruit. Medium body, creamy texture, medium carbonation. Top-notch Schlenkerla edition again, a bit more 'drinkable' perhaps than the 'hard' smoked ones. 9/4/9/3/16=4.1 2021 edition, bottle from Geers. Lots of bacon, smoked sausage, BBQ herbs, baked banana, stewed plum, pear, raisin. Sweet dried banana, pear, raisin in a smoky-meaty profile, herbal & toasty into the finish, bit woody too, smoked meat still and dried fruit. Lovely and so easy to drink in the style.
