The Original Schlenkerla Lentbeer is an unfiltered smokebeer, brewed in accordance with the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516. Bottom-fermenting yeast gives the reddish brown lentbeer a natural cloudiness. Its smoky aroma is already noticeable in the smell, combined with a fine hoppy note. In the drink the fullbodied, highly drinkable lentbeer shows its strong malty flavour, rounded up with the smokey taste and a light bitterness. Due to the nourishing yeast, the Original Schlenkerla Lentbeer has the "Brotzeit already included" (German word for afternoon snack).

Thnx to 77ships. Pours a dark copper/amber. Small white head. Smell is full on meaty smoke. Full and intense. Taste is full, mild bitterness. Intense smoke, very meaty ( zwarte woudham) . Not bad, even for me, who dislikes smokey beers.

The lent beer in Heller's legendary Aecht Schlenkerla series of smoked beers, originally only available from kegs but now bottled as well, and intended for the lent period, because of its nourishing yeast (a story that runs parallel with e.g. some Belgian trappist ales). Initially thick and foamy, cobweb-lacing, pale greyish white, audibly crackling head, dissolving gradually and ending as a waferthin ring around the glass; chestnut brown robe with deep copper red glow, clear at first with lively visible sparkling but hazy with sediment. Aroma of smoked herring and even extinguished bonfire, peanuts, dried figs, dry cigarette tobacco, bacon sizzling in a hot pan, hard caramel, nutmeg, brown soap, dry tea, dried tree leaves, green garden weeds hint. Clean onset, fizzy carbonation, very light touch of apricot peel but no esters, malty profile with peanutty and somewhat caramelly sweetishness though restrainedly so and tempered by a slight toasty-bitter accent, quickly shifting to the expected smoked bacon- and even vaguely bonfire-like Rauchmalz effect, adding a spicy umami factor as in all of Aecht Schlenkerla's classic smoked beers; this smokiness goes hand in hand with a long hop bitter finish, herbal, leafy and even a bit quinine-like in the end. Clean but full-fledged Bamberg smoke beer, offering exactly what one expects from this old brand, with a well-developed hop bitterness to it, more so than I am used to from traditional German lagers. Great example of the old Bamberg Rauchbier style.

hazy dark amber to mahogany colour, medium sized creamy beige-ish head; aroma of smokey, some rye bread, slight burnt plum jam and roasted nuts notes; taste of smoked, toasted rye bread, some dried fruity notes like prune, roasted nuts and hoppy bitterness;great one, though I do not see the advantage (or even the difference) compared to the 'simple' (and much-much cheaper version) of Fasten

Bottle from Jonas, thanks! Crystal clear brown with a decent head, caramel nut grain nose. Not much smoke but I did drink it with home smoked pork ribs so it could have been disguised. Great complex dark caramel flavor! Hints of roasted nuts and so on. Excellent Fastenbier!
