In the early days of Struise, Pannepot had a few different versions. Pannepot (regular) / pannepeut (slightly less rosted malts) , Pannepot Reserva (aged on wine barrels), and pannepot Grand Reserva (aged on wine + calvados barrels) . Other barrel types ( such as Port) were released under the 'Pannepot Special Reserva' brand.

Over time, things have gotten a bit less clear, and now special versions have also been released as Pannepot Reserva, whilst some red wine barrel aged versions have been released under 'Pannepot Special Reserva' .

0,33l bottle as a souvenir from my colleague’s trip to Antwerp over New Year’s Day, 2010 vintage (best before 4/5/2019). Clear, almost opaque, very dark reddish brown to black with a thin, frothy, slowly diminishing, brown head. Pleasant, fruity-malty aroma of dark ripe fruits, cane sugar, nuts, a bit of coffee and some alcohol. Intense, sweetish fruity-malty taste of raisins, prunes, nuts and figs, accompanied by dark chocolate, a bit of coffee and licorice. Very long, warming and alcoholic finish with a bit of hops and lots of dark chocolate and coffee. Full body, smooth and creamy mouthfeel, very soft carbonation. Fantastic beer, although my palate does not seem to be sophisticated enough to detect the differences compared to the regular version. I can only taste a bit more alcohol and a heavier finish, maybe an increase in aroma.

Sample from 2010 bottle at the Memorial Day Deck Beers tasting on 05/27/2013: This beer pours an opaque cola color with a thin light beige head that diminishes steadily to a dense film. Small patches of lacing. Port wine, yeast and caramel in the nose. Full-bodied with flavors of raisins, Belgian yeast, caramel malt and vanilla. The finish is sweet with a dark fruit aftertaste. Good beer all around.
