St-Feuillien’ Saison is what the Belgians call a beer of the terroir, a traditional farmhouse ale with all the rich savour of the fertile land of southern Belgium. Saison, a warm golden blonde ale, is a top-fermented classique. Thanks to secondary fermentation in the bottle, Saison has an unmistakable flavour full of rich nuances and a slight tang. Saison, the latest in a long line of top-quality St-Feuillien beers, is a “hoppy”, unfiltered bee that is so emblematic of the rich Belgian tradition.

Straight from The Barn sweaty and fine, what else can you ask for? This one looks a lot better than the Californian girls on tv. They do not exist, this farmhouse ale do. Cloudy golden with a smashing white head. Lovely fresh citric and yeast aroma. Better body than my neighbors wife. Moderate sweetness and a fresh bitterness. Pleasant carbonation. Lick it up says Paul Stanley and I agree. Do not spoil this one. Perfect fresh citric, mild spicy and yeast flavor. Oh mama I want more.

Bottle @ Greg’s dump. Pours a golden orange appearance with a big fluffy, off white head. A touch metallic, Pils / straw / hay, dull citrus, a touch peppery aroma. Pretty high carbonation. A bit chewy and papery. Bready, crackery flavor. Kind of bland.

750 ml bottle into signature chalice, best before 4/3/2014. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy deep gold color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of lemon zest, pear, apple, orange peel, light banana, pepper, clove, herbal, floral, grass, honey, bread, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, earthy hops, and pale malt notes; with good strength. Taste of lemon zest, pear, apple, orange peel, light banana, pepper, clove, herbal, floral, grass, honey, bread, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Good amount of earthy herbal/yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon zest, pear, apple, orange peel, light banana, pepper, clove, herbal, floral, grass, honey, bread, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, earthy hops, and pale malt flavors; with a great malt/yeast flavor balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and lightly prickly mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent saison. All around great balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, earthy hops, and pale malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Single from the LCBO. Pours a hazy golden-blonde colour with a huge frothy off-white head, everlasting and some creamy lacing. Nice vivid carbonation. Fruity aromas at first, more on the orange side, but turns quickly to lemons with some hops coming out and mild Belgian Ale yeast. The taste stays on the orange side with some very light bitterness in the finish and yeast in the aftertaste. Slightly oily mouthfeel. A little rusty flavour comes up from time to time that bugs me, but overall quite nice when this one is not there.

Small and slim can, 6.5 % abv, picked up at Vinmonopolet Tromsø Sentrum. Next to clear golden body. Completely dissipating white head. Minimal lacing. Fresh fruity aroma with semi-sweet malts beneath. Succulent fruity taste profile including mandarin, orange and peach. Fruit bitter tail. Airy in the mouth. Medium bodied. Super refreshing, maybe too much juicy fruits (Tromsø 20.04.2014).
