St-Feuillien’ Saison is what the Belgians call a beer of the terroir, a traditional farmhouse ale with all the rich savour of the fertile land of southern Belgium. Saison, a warm golden blonde ale, is a top-fermented classique. Thanks to secondary fermentation in the bottle, Saison has an unmistakable flavour full of rich nuances and a slight tang. Saison, the latest in a long line of top-quality St-Feuillien beers, is a “hoppy”, unfiltered bee that is so emblematic of the rich Belgian tradition.

Saison since 2009 initially intended for export to the States but now widely available in Belgian supermarkets, even on cans. Re-rating after six years or so, from such a can. Thin, sticky, off-white, lightly lacing head, cloudy peach blonde with a lot of yeast and proteins hanging around everywhere. Aroma of limoncello, cake dough, cider, green banana, curry spices, sundried tomato, honey, mango, pineapple, strawberry. Soft sourish and sweetish onset, gooseberry, pineapple, hints of banana and orange, medium carbo, yeasty spiciness on top of a supple, light bready and somewhat honeyish malt sweetness leading to a floral, aromatic, drying and gently bittering hop finish, a bit ’dirty’, with a lot of juicy malts remaining. Decent and refreshing with delicate aroma, but not sure how this qualifies as a saison...

Pours an orangey color, topped with nice white head. There is a hoppy and fruity aroma. The taste is bittery with some spices in the finish. Easily drinkable, fine.

Draught @ De Baron, Eindhoven. Pours clear amber with small off-white head. Clear aroma of malt, hops and citrus, with a spicy note to it. Bitter, hoppy flavour, with sweetish notes of malt and fruit, and sourish, citric touches. Lively carbonation. Bitter sand rough aftertaste with hints of aniseed. Nice.
