Clear mid-brown colour with thin head. Aroma of dark malt and some smoke. There’s a fruity background to this one which goes up nicely against the smoke. Fairly low on sweetness. Clean. Decent stuff but not something I need to have again.

Bottle. Chewy, malty nose, chocolate, raisins, caramel, thick and rich. Almost black, very dark brown with orange tints. Low, thick head. Malty, slightly smoky, a touch of soy, some berries. Hops are noticeable, spicy and a bit herbal. Quite bitter finish for the style. Rich and full but not too heavy or cloying. Nicely fruity, spicy finish. Good stuff.

Bottle from Biernavigatie. Dark brown beer, beige foam. Nose of plums, dark fruit, caramel and chocolate. I like the bitterness in the beer but didn’t like the sweet chocolaty sweet flavour.

reddish brown mahogany colour, medium sized dense beige head; aroma of berries, dried fruits like plum, maybe raisin, some cocoa, toasted rye bread and some minimal herbal notes; taste of dried fruits, roasted sugar, cocoa and syrupy notes and hints of herbal liqueur; not a typical doppelbock, but still very good
