Originally called "Ouden Tripel", this ancient beer has found a new élan as a regional specialty under its current name: "VanderGhinste Roodbruin".

The main ingredients of our Vanderghinste Roodbruin are malted barley, wheat, hops, water, and caramelized malts. These are used to brew a top-fermented beer.

Blending this beer with lambic beer aged in oak barrels for 18 months, results in this specific West Flanders Red-brown beer. Its typical flavour is characterized by a well-balanced, hardly noticeable sourness. This first flavour impression is soon followed by a second pleasant discovery: a slight bitterness followed by a hint of sweetness.

11.2 oz bottle. Aroma consists of vinegar, dark fruits (cherry, raspberry seeds), pepper, sweaty gym socks. Pours clear dark brown with amber highlights and a thick, long-lasting beige head. Taste is sour (7/10 on a sour scale), fruity, dry, delicious; has a lingering sweetness. A lot like Duchesse. Seems a little thin, though. This is really hitting the spot right now.

Sample at En Öl- & Whiskymässa, Gothenburg, 2015, april. Hazy brown with red nuances, cream colored small head dissipating quickly, leaving a small ring on the surface. Aroma is complex, with a tartness, oak, leaves, dark fruit, some alcohol, sweet notes. Taste is medium sweet with a tartness following, oak, malt, dark fruit, bitterness. Ends oaky, dry and medium bitter. Medium to big body, high carbo. A potent, rather big beer, me like!

Clear dark red brown colour, good frothy light tan head, diminishes slowly, light lacing. Aroma sour cherries, vinegar, woody notes. Taste medium fruity sour, slightly sweet, cherries, woody notes. Medium body, sticky texture, soft carbonation, aftertaste soursweet, fruity, bit woody; very nice, so much better than all those trendy fruit beers out there.
