Originally called "Ouden Tripel", this ancient beer has found a new élan as a regional specialty under its current name: "VanderGhinste Roodbruin".
The main ingredients of our Vanderghinste Roodbruin are malted barley, wheat, hops, water, and caramelized malts. These are used to brew a top-fermented beer.
Blending this beer with lambic beer aged in oak barrels for 18 months, results in this specific West Flanders Red-brown beer. Its typical flavour is characterized by a well-balanced, hardly noticeable sourness. This first flavour impression is soon followed by a second pleasant discovery: a slight bitterness followed by a hint of sweetness.

25cl bottle, labeled Vanderghinste oud bruin. BBE 280115. Mahogany color, thin, but lasting white head. Caramel in the back, sour berries up front, hint of vinegar in aroma. Flavor the same really, some tartness, sweet berries, cherry notes. Long finish with notes of cherries and raspberries. Tasty.

"Vander Ghinste Oud Bruin", 25-cl-Fläschchen von Belgianbeerz.com, 23.8.2014. - Tiefes Rotbraun, klar. - In der Nase angenehm säuerliche Frucht (Brombeere oder Schwarze Johannisbeere), Aceto balsamico, Holz. - Antrunk spritzig säuerlich, etwas stumpf und leicht süß, Boskoop-artig. Mild rezent, schlank, sehr erfrischend.

Trocken, wenig malzig. Laff. 11/8/7/8//7

Draught as Vanderghinste Oud Bruin @ De Klep, Venlo. Pours cloudy coffee brown with creamy, stable light beige head. Clear, vinous aroma, with touches of yeast and subtle notes of hops. Intense vinous flavour, with estery and fruity touches. Hints of metal in the aftertaste. Creamy mouthfeel despite rather lively carbonation. Decent.

Brown with a nice sour taste of malt and oak. Tardy, but in a balanced way. Tasty beer.

Bottle. Lovely subtle nose: cherry, slight green apple sour, gentle touch of funk, sugar and slight candyfloss. Taste is slight sour leading to candy sugar, slight white chocolate then gentle funk with a slight sparkling sugar which gives it a faro quality. Amenable but slightly lightweight in the taste.

Flaska på Nya Tröls. En bra välbalanserad Oud Bruin som inte är för söt. Istället lätt syrlig med söt stenfrukter, körsbär och inlagda plommon, vinbär, lite sirap, lätt plommonkärnbeska. Riktigt trevlig

24.03.2014, tap (as VanderGhinste Oud Bruin) @ Crowbar:
Small creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly sweet sour-ish, caramel, sour winegum, grass, butterscotch, sour apples, soda powder, hints of paint. Taste is slightly sour-ish fruity, sour winegum, sour apples, sorrel, soda powder, butterscotch, caramel malts grass. Little bitterness, kind of a metallic mouthfeel. Fair enough.
