Bottle shared with JMD at HNB 24.03.15. Dark red to violet. Dense pink head and lacing. Very strong aroma of fine blackcurrant juice. Exceptionally well balanced with moderate sourness in taste. Very quaffable. Superb!!!

*Old rating 25cl, best before 10.05. Schön johannisbeer-herbes Bier. Leichte Säure ist spürbar, die Johannisbeere ist fruchtig aber nicht zu intensiv süß. Spannende, süffige Kombination.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 12/16/2013. Pours fairly clear dark red color with a 2 finger dense dark pink head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with some light strreaming carbonation. Aromas of big tart blackberry, black currant, red grape, candi sugar, hay, grass, light funk, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance of big authentic berry fruitiness, candi sugar, and light earthy yeast notes; with great strength. Taste of big tart blackberry, black currant, red grape, candi sugar, hay, grass, light funk, and yeast earthiness. Good amount of fruity tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of blackberry, black currant, red grape, candi sugar, hay, grass, light funk, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice balance and robustness of big authentic berry fruitiness, candi sugar, and light earthy yeast notes; with a good sweetness/tartness balance and minimal cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth, fairly slick, and lightly acidic mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 3.5%. Overall this is an excellent sweetened fruit Lambic style. All around great robustness and balance of authentic berry fruitiness, candi sugar, and light earthy yeast flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

750 ml bottle. Deep purple color, like grape juice. Rocky pink head. Exquisitely ornate Belgian lacing. Funky, fruity grape nose. Big grape and funk flavor upfront. Tart fruitiness follows. Finish is slightly dry and oily. Tough interesting, it’s not something I would drink much of.

Bottle from B&S Drinks, Leuven. Dark red colour, pink foam. Aroma of blackcurrant, candy and lemon. Sour beer with sweet sugary hints. More lemonade than beer but not very bad.

Bottle, 0.25l. Murky ruby color with small frothy reddish head. Aroma of black currant, vinegar, barnyard and horse blanket. Taste starts sour fruity and vinous, follows by sweet black currant syrup with earthy and metallic mouthfeel, while finish is very light bitter, maybe just because of grape skins. Medium body, syrupy texture and fizzy natural carbonation in palate. Way above my initial expectations...

Variation on sweet kriek practically invented by Lindemans. A deep reddish purple beer with thin lilac head and aroma and taste dominated by sugar and blackcurrant, crème de cassis-like but without the alcohol, ascorbic acidity and spicy sweet finish. Lambic is only there for structural reasons but hardly noticeable. I can imagine this type of beers has its amateurs, but I am not one of them, though I respect the fact that Lindemans chose this way in order to survive - otherwise one of the best unblended lambics might have gone lost.
