Some beers just belong in barrels, and Flying Mouflan – a resiny, chocolatey giant of a barleywine ale – is one of them. We pour every drop we brew into bourbon barrels, taming the sharpness of the hops and uncovering layers of salted caramel, pecan pie and rum raisin.

Poured into a Flying Mouflan tulip, the appearance was a dark amber color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that dissipated at a nice pace. Some messy lace.
The aroma had some sharp sweet caramel/toffee up front. Sharp crisp red apple. Touch of vanilla and wood then some grassy to tobacco hops.
The flavor takes the prior mentioned aromas sweetly and then as it warms, more bitterness comes out with a touch of spice. Nice wet tobacco/vanilla/malty aftertaste flowing into the finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a great sipping quality about it. Carbonation seems to starting to die off a bit. ABV felt where the brewer projected it.
Overall, nicely done barleywine leaning towards the English side and aged fairly well. I would have this again.

Bottle thanks to Dan. Pours a clear dark amber color with a medium white head. A big sweet complex nose, oak, perfume, fruity. The flavor is big fruit, apples, toffee, caramel, pine, huge oak. Very good. Reminds me of Alesmith for some reason.

12.7oz bottle shared by Beerman6686-thanks. Disappearing tan-mahogany. A-bourbon/marshmallow/caramel. T-follows with a backbone of hop bite.
