0,33 l bottle. Pours almost pitch black with small espresso colour head. Aroma is huge, as soon as you open the bottle it fills the room. Roast, coffee, dark chocolate, some light dried fruit and plenty of malts. Taste is quite overwhelming, roasty as it can be, coffee, some chocolate, heavy sweetness, it is also quite heavy bitter, roast bitterness more than hop bitterness. Body is full to say the least, texture is thick, carbonation soft. Finish is long bitter sweet coffee, dark roast second crack coffee.

BOTTLE 33 CL. Black as crude oil, dark espresso head. Thick inky roasty sweetness. Just a touch of alcohol to make things more interesting. The roastiness is as big as can be, sharp and acid, but the malts make it feel right - dark chocolate and even some fruit. The bitterness, more roasty than hoppy, is trying hard to make a statement to no avail. Extreme.

Bottle shared thanks to sjogro. Black with light brown head. Strong roasted malts, toffee, blackberries, blueberries, marzipan, strong black chocolate, earthy leaves. Enormous roast with sweet malts and nice fruity notes. Over medium sweet and strong bittersweet with some roasted tartness in the finish. Full bodied. Very very roasted but quite nice.

Bottle at home, 25th February 17. Pours dark and luscious. Aroma is complex, rich, dark fruit, leather, liquorice. Taste is slight sharp, liquorice, wood, almost barrel, but it’s not aged, leather, cocoa, more sharpness, which takes the sweetness away. Really well made.

Bottle. Archer Road Beer Stop, Sheffield. Very dark, chestnut brown. Film and ring of sticky, leggy, tan head. Nose has liquorice. Soy sauce. Dark chocolate. Some split wood. Some creosote. Big on the savoury. Taste is fairly sweet, in a treacly kind of way. Chewy, robust mouthfeel. Bitter, chewy, savoury finish.

Bottle. Black oily pour. Aroma has chocolate, creamy roasted malt, mocha coffee and licorice. Rich flavor of creamy chocolate, licorice, coffee, bitter fruity hop and mocha. Absolutely delicious, but the old recipe was perhaps even a bit better.

Bottle, courtesy of DerA. Pours dark brown. Aroma is mostly chocolate, some tar, coffee and liquorice, yet all not overwhelmingly strong. Body is super bitter, but also with a nice sweetness. Roasty throughout. Nice!
