Imperial Stout Oatmeal Stout with Kopi Luwak Coffee. Released January 2015.

This beer is the culmination of the efforts of two world-class brewers to create the most vitalizing coffee stout in the world. AleSmith and good friend Mikkeller join forces, blending the legendary Speedway Stout and Beer Geek Brunch Weasel together into one massive Imperial Oatmeal Stout with enough coffee and oats to substitute for your weekend brunch.

A beer of this magnitude requires a robust coffee with enough backbone to compliment the roasty and dark malt flavors; Kopi Luwak Coffee is the perfect choice. These coveted coffee beans are selected for their ripeness and quality by the Indonesian Palm Civet, a jungle marsupial that devours the fruit of the coffee cherry. The beans are then gathered from jungle floors, washed, sun-dried, and roasted. This smooth and aromatic stout is seriously good to the last dropping.

750ml bottle at Alex's. 2015. Pours an almost black with a beige head. Aroma is roasted malt and some fruity notes. Taste is similar with lots of roasty notes. This one is definitely Russian Imperial Stout, I would prefer it to be more sweet and less bitter. Still good.

Bottle shared at THT January (Platypus Edition). Massive thanks to RandomStrangerNL. Black with nice light brown head. Massive coffee, molasses, fudge, sweet malts, roast, blackberries, soft roasted nuts. Very nice coffee! Over medium sweet and bitter with light tart finish from the coffee. Full bodied. Not the best Speedway, but quite nice!

Blend of AleSmith's Speedway Stout with Mikkeller's Beer Geek Brunch Weasel, enriched with the famous Kopi Luwak coffee, the beans of which are collected after having passed through the digestive system of the luwak, a mammal endemic to tropical Asia. This beer immediately drew my attention upon its release in early 2015, so I'm very happy to be able to still taste it two and a half years later. Lightly lacing, medium thick, pale yellow-beige, creamy head over a very dark mahogany-bronze beer, blackish in its general looks. Fascinating, spicy, lively and intense aroma of green coffee beans, bitter chocolate, Cuban cigars, walnut oil, cedarwood, espresso, toasted bread, cured meat. Sweet onset of candied fig and raisin with biltong-like meaty umami edge, bit sourish, medium carbo for the style, supple, viscous and oily mouthfeel. Nutty, toffeeish and eventually deeply toasted, big malt body with 'blood'-like iron edge, possibly related to the kopi luwak beans, coming across as 'raw' and green in the end; further adorned by sherry-like alcohol and peppery hop bitterness complementing the roasted barley and the coffee. Pungent, assertive, spicy and very interesting, deliciously colourful stout, seemingly somewhat more Speedway than Beer Geek character, but in any case a bit 'different' and well worth hunting down.

Thanks Matthew for sharing the bottle! Poured into a snifter showing pitch black with no head. The nose shows a lot of strong roasted coffee bean; probably closer to espresso. The palate is full bodied and moderately carbonated. Espresso throughout with the same strong bitterness.
