“When I copied the famous Even More Jesus, I had to ask myself as an artist, why am I doing this? I didn’t honestly know. It was just an instinct about beer as pure form… in a sense this stout is like a metaphor for freedom - the sum of all the beauty that surrounds me and my perfect contemporary existence.”

33cl bottle from Alko. Pours pitch black color with a thin brown head. Aroma has molasses, syrup and lots of licorice. Licorice, syrupy sweetness, dark malts, dark chocolate and coffee. Quite complex and not overly sweet fortunately. Licorice continues forever. Slow sipper. Oily mouthfeel.

Kicsi, világosbarna, nem túl tartós hab, fekete szín. Édeskés, csokis, kávés, kakaós, aszalt gyümölcsös illat, némi konyakos felhanggal. Csokis, kávés, kakaóporos, aszalt gyümölcsös, fekete cseresznyés, szilvás ízek. Testes, közepesen szénsavas, erősen keserű. Nagyon finom sör, kiváló arányokkal és egyensúllyal.

Bottle from Wine Rack, West Byfleet. Liquorice, cloves, coffee, stewed fruit, with a hint of smoke in the aroma. All quite subtle. Dark and glossy, oily looking. Beige head was initially thick but soon reduced down. Some minimal sweetness before the bitterness increases in volume through to the finish. Heavy. Oily. Light fizzy carbonation. Astringent finish - the ABV comes to the fore at this stage. It’s this element of the palate which drops points for me, just too astringent.

Bottle. Opaque deep brown to black colour, small beige head that stays for long and leaves thick laces. Aroma: rich esters, dark malts, dried fruit, Port wine. Medium to full body. More roastiness on tongue. Sweet beginning. Dry ending. Dried fruit. Vinous. Warming alcohol. Light bitterness plays well with roasted malts. Excellent brew.

Aus der Flasche 2015-09 getrunken. Perfektes Imperial Stout ohne Schnörkel aber traumhaften Balance was Bitterkeit und Alkoholgehalt angeht, Dazu kommt eine schöne Cremigkeit. Wow!

12 oz bottle. Pours a very dark brown with moderate head. Aromas of black coffee, roasted malts and a little pine. Flavors of black licorice, acidic black coffee, soy sauce/umami, and heavily roasted malts. Acidic roasty finish.

0.33l bottle. Black body, practically no head. Aroma of nutmeg, booze, burned sugar and chocolate. Taste of chocolate, rum, dark sugar, nutmeg and floral hops. Too boozy for me.

Tap at Harry’s Hofbrau in Redwood City. Aroma is scorched caramel and alcohol heat. Slightly fiscal. Deep brown with minimal head. Flavor is a lot of alcohol warmth, caramel, molasses and slight powdered cocoa. A little uninspired.

Butelka 330ml (Batch #009). Czekolada w smaku z lekko kwaskowym finiszem i wyraźną nutą szlachetnego alkoholu dopełniającą i tak sporą paloną goryczkę, nieco przydługą i trochę zalegającą, niemniej całkiem niezłą w odbiorze.
