Bottle at home, as Spioenkopje / Wenduins Kriekenbier. Pours rusty red with fluffy offwhite head. Sweet malts, sweet kriekenlemonade, some dry grass and earthy, leathery bitterness. Medium body and soft carbonation.

F: medium, off-white, quick gone. C: dark red to brown, hazy. A: fruity, a lot of cherries but very sugary candy way, bit red berries. T: malty, bit wheat, candy cherries, sugary, medium body and carbonation, nothing special, as Spioenkopje Wenduins Kriekenbier, 33cl bottle from AD De Haan supermarket.

As Spioenkopje Wenduins Kriekenbier. Another Den Haene beer made at Strubbe, apparently a witbier-based cherry beer (a style I usually dislike, but let’s not be prejudiced). Thickly lacing, irregular, loose but stable, pale greyish beige head (not pink - which usually means no extra colorants have been added, not a bad sign); deep ruby red colour, slightly hazy. Aroma of cherry candy (’poepegatjes’ for the Flemish raters) but not exaggeratedly so and not overpowering other hints of lemon juice, old bread, red apple, earthy beetroot, rotting autumn leaves, cooked red cabbage (DMS) and honey. Sweet onset, candied cherries and cherry jam abounding, but countered with a slight, wheaty sourishness as well as a certain amount of lemonade-like artificial ’citrusness’, some peach and banana notes as well, slick and lightly bready maltiness underneath but somewhat thin, carrying the sugary sweetness till the end, where it meets a strange and rather unpleasant, aspartame-like bitterness as well as a deep, earthy hop bitterness (but mildly so), resulting in a weird bittersweet effect running into the throat. Sweet cherry beer indeed, but with the same aspartame ’bittersweetness’ as some of the other Haene beers. Strange, but at least it is not too cloying; otherwise, still ill-conceived and far from pleasant to pour down.

10/06/2015 - @home. 33cl from a gift. Clearing redelijk almost "rosé" colour without dissipating head. Some wheat, very little sour, mostly sweet cherry candy, some metallic.

Pours deepred, with a brown touch Good white head Smell is cherry, in a ( partly ) candy character . Good cqrbonqtion Very full cherry tqste . Not to much white coming trough, which seems to be good for this kind of beer . Taste is cherry candy, but also some natural aspects . Pretty damn sure its sweetened , But its doable ...

33cl Bottle: best before 4th Oct 2012, poured into a ’Coors Banquet’ badged flute on 2nd Aug 2012. Another beer brewed for a Beer Shop on the Belgian coast. Left quiet a lot in the bottle, so fairly clear body of a reddy/light brown colour with a large white (with a rosey tint) head of foam on top. Apples and berries in the nose along with something sugary. The taste was also sweet fruits: too sweet for my liking, so my wife finished the glass. Scored it as objectively as I could!
