Typical Flemish red-brown beer with a pleasant balance between complex fruitiness and refreshing acidity. This gem of brewing art owes its recognition as an "acknowledged local product" to the age-old production process. Beer from high mixed fermentation, carefully matured for 24 months on oak wood. Basic ingredients: barley malt, caramel malt, annual Poperinge hops and pure water. The spontaneous but extremely complex microbiology inside the oak barrels results in an extremely soft, sour beer, ready to be fortified with a young, high-fermented beer.

T: fruity, light sourness mix with sweetness, bit of woody, cherries, light lacto tones, medium body, medium carbonation, very good beer and also for the style, I like it, 0,33l bottle from Prik & Tik ABC Drinks in Leuven.

0.33 l bottle from ’Prik & Tik Baelus’, Cuvée 2013, best before May 2021. Clear, deep ruby with a medium large, frothy, rather quickly diminishing, beige head. Sourish-fruity, slightly vinous aroma of red grapes, oak, balsamic vinegar and a touch of brett funk. Sweet, slightly sourish, quite fruity and a bit vinous taste of red grapes, brown sugar, oak, some balsamic vinegar and slight hints of brett, followed by a short, just slightly bitter, moderately tart, a bit vinous-dry and minimally metallic finish. Thin to medium body, minimally astringent and quite effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Quite tasty, a bit too sweet but still very pleasant, not overly complex but with a nice, bretty and vinous touch.

Bottle, BB 2014 (from beliguminabox). Pours dark amber-brown. Aroma is sweet, candy, malt, some sourness. Flavor is sour and sweet, candy, malt. Feels smooth. Body is on the thin side. Drinkability is good. Overall: good, but I would probablt like fresher bottle better.

Rood bruin bier met weinig schuim. Smaak is zoetzuur en fruitig met iets van bessen, bramen en pruimen. Voor mij persoonlijk een echt goed fris bier omdat deze wat zoeter is.
