[1/30/16] Bottle sample at the Encomium bottle share, after RateBeer Best awards ceremony at Hyatt Vineyard Creek Hotel in Santa Rosa. Thanks everyone who shared bottles! 2014 bottle. Black with a tan head. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, cake, nuts. Sweet, slightly boozy. Full-bodied.

Tasting at Matt’s, probably bottled before Oct 2014
Black color, oily pour, with medium sized brown head. The aroma is less intense than expected, but harmonious; the whiskey is evident; the roasted malts blend with the dark chocolate. Full bodied, with medium sweetness; rich flavor of roasted malts and dark chocolate, dark sour cherries; the whiskey is strong, the liquorice a bit too much, and also some acidity from the dark malts that is not elegant. Short-ish final.

Bottle from MeadMe, thanks for the opportunity! Pitch black with a frothy creamy bubbly tan head that persists. Roasty chocolate with a hint of licorice and a bit of oak and vanilla. Solid whiskey presence is never harsh. Earthy hop and light pitted fruits round this out nicely. Thick creamy mouthfeel, light level of carbonation, thick body. That’s a very tasty brew right there.

Bottle at the End of an Era tasting at ABC Beers, Den Haag. Poured a dark brown with a frothy thin tan head. The aroma is rich roasty malt, alcohol liqourice, red berry fruit, light chocolate. The flavour is moderate sweet with a rich malt, molasses, alcohol, fruit palate. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle @ benzai. Black with a small brown head. Smells roasty, salmiakki, chocolate, salty. Tastes roasty, coffee, slightly liquorice, sweet, vanilla. Very full body, thick, soft carbo.

Sampled from bottle during Borefts Beer Festival 2015. Black color, average sized brown head. Smell and taste malts, chocolate, vanilla, light roast, mocha. Full body, thick, soft carbonation. [Note: deserves a re-rate, will enter one at some point as I have a bottle in my cellar] -- Re-rate October 6th 2015, shared my bottle @ weekly tasting shared with Dutchdrebus and Joes. Opaque pitch black color, full sized thick dense brown head that lasts for a very long time and leaves fair to good lacing. Aroma is malts, dark and roasted malts, some chocolate, mocha, lightly a hint of alcohol. Taste malts, roasted malts, chocolate, lightly nutty, mocha, dark fruits, bitter. Thick texture, full body, soft carbonation. Lovely!
