Pernicious is our flagship India Pale Ale boasting a silver medal at this year’s Great American Beer Festival. This massively dry-hopped ale has minimum malt complexity and a combination of juicy, tropical fruit-forward hops with heavy resinous American hops. Pernicious is the epitome of a West Coast IPA, made right here in the Southeast.

12 ounce bottle. Medium gold color. Large pillowy white head. Fragragrant floral hop nose. Notes of citrus and green onions. Delicious biscuit malt flavor leads to a bodacious complex hop crescendo. Notes of lemony citrus, melon, ripe kiwi, pine boughs and white pepper. Wonderfully balanced and immenently drinkable. The 7.2% ABV is well hidden.

IPA is not my favorite style, but tried this when someone else in my group ordered it. I do love the hoppy smell of IPA's and this one has a great pine and floral aroma. It had the expected floral hop bitterness taste but also an unexpected smooth, crisp finish. Very good beer for this style and overall a solid beer. Bitterness does not linger in aftertaste.

On tap at the Filling Station, pours a clear golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out dry dank piney hops upfront, with a dry biscuity malt base. Flavour is along the same lines, with dry piney hops and dry biscuity malt. Lots of depth and very drinkable. Nicely constructed.

Draft at Craft Brewed. Pours a clear gold with a finger of foam that dissipates quickly. Lots of peach and apricot in the nose. Clean, crisp and dry on the palate. Quite bitter, light bodied. Bitter, grassy finish. Nothing special really. --- Beer merged from original tick of Pernicious IPA on 13 Oct 2017 at 21:34 - Score: 7. Original review text: Lots of peach and apricot in the nose. Bottle from Bombers Beverage Company, Wilmington, North Carolina. Golden with a small head. Strongish tasting pale ale, but maintains a decent enough IPA character in both aroma and taste, with a small smoothness in the latter respect.

Aroma’s super fresh, fragrant hops, malt, grain, spice. Flavor’s like nose, big, juicy bittersweet, yet balanced. Excellent body and finish.
