Pernicious is our flagship India Pale Ale boasting a silver medal at this year’s Great American Beer Festival. This massively dry-hopped ale has minimum malt complexity and a combination of juicy, tropical fruit-forward hops with heavy resinous American hops. Pernicious is the epitome of a West Coast IPA, made right here in the Southeast.

Poured from a bottle dated 11/15/2015. Aroma has a medium light cracker malt note with faint biscuit notes. Medium light tropical fruit, grapefruit and citrus hop notes. Some faint stone fruit notes as well. Pours a hazy, bright, yellow gold with a medium sized, thick, white head that exhibits good retention as it recedes to a thin film that lingers. Moderate lacing and faint legs. Flavor has a light sweetness with some cracker and biscuit malt notes. Medium high bitterness and faint alcohol spice. Moderate hop flavors with some nice tropical fruit and citrus notes. moderate grapefruit and light stone fruit. A light resin note. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a pretty nice IPA. The hop aroma is a bit muted, but the hop flavors come through where a lot of IPAs have been lacking these days. A solid IPA.

Draft. Clear golden body with a frothy, white head, lasting. Aroma of pine, grapefruit, citrus, toasted grain, pineapple, resin. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Taste of leafy hops, pine, grapefruit and resin. This isn’t quite a resin bomb, but close. Citrus, earthiness and biscuit keep it from going over the edge.

12 oz. bottle, brought by Ian to my going away party. Pale yellow, with a small, off-white ring. Nose is pine, melon, and lemon, with some floral notes. Sweet and citrusy, with a nice, smooth bitterness. Light body, lightly acidic, and clean. Quite a nice IPA.

Bottle thanks to Andy. It pours hazy bright gold with a thick white head. The nose is fresh, juicy tropical fruits... pineapple, peach, orange, pine needles and bread. The taste is crisp, clean, bitter, fresh pine, floral notes, grapefruit, zest and straw with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate, foamy carbonation. Aroma is particularly good. Crisp, clean and very drinkable.
