Keg at the Earl of Essex - London. Pours oily black with a dense, creamy mocha head. The nose has a lot of torched wood, iodine, Earth, a bit of rubber. Medium sweet flavor, oily, with tangy dark fruits, raisins, smoke, a bit of salty sweat, prunes. Medium to full bodied, chewy, within be to average carbonation. Warming finish, sticky, a little bit acetic actually, with more sweat, tangy dark fruits, slight cocoa. A little awkward and not really very drinkable. Both De Molen and Anchorage are better than this.

Rating #650. Black color with small tan head. Aroma is sweet-sour candy, vineous booze, coffee. Taste is chocolate and caramel, coffee, paired with a vineous sourness. Earthy stout bitterness is there as well. Weird but good.

Tap @EarlOfEssex. Black with small tan head. Brown sugar and bourbon aroma. Thick, sourish and vinous, black cherries and vanilla flavour. Boozy bourbon finish. Almost over the top, too much going on here in all kinds of directions.

Bottle from Plan B, Rotterdam, Netherlands, consumed at home Sunday 29th March 2015 Pours black without much head, funky aroma with a bit of wild mushroom. In the mouth the taste totally belies it’s strength. Sour in the mouth, tangy, drinks much easier than 11%+. Quite dry, furry across the roof of the mouth. One of the most interesting of the beers I’ve had today but still that doesn’t make it great. A7’A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.6

Tap @ de Molen, small sample. Dark brown color, short frothy head. Aroma is funky, leather, bit red wine fruitiness, slight roast. Soft sweet in taste, bit malty bitterness, some funky sourness but not much. Quite some interesting flavors, although funky RIS aint my favorite. Interesting stuff.

On tap. Pours black with short tan head. Aromas of rubbing alcohol and vinegar. Flavors carry same with additional sour red fruit and red wine/ vinous notes. Expecting more from these guys.

Opaque dark brown beer, good size tan head. Nose of sour dark malts and malt cream. Palate is airy with good fine carbonation. Sour dark malts follow the nose. No roast or bitterness. It’s an almost gueuzey sourness, wet wood and even a little lemon. Malt cream sweetness provides some balance. A tangy, slightly puckery and mildly bitter finish. Interesting but the sourness is losing drinkability for me.
