Named for a medieval Scottish sword, Claymore Scotch ale is a tribute to the legendary "Wee Heavy" beers of Scotland. A malty, deep-ruby-hued ale, it features a generous amount of caramel sweetness, a reserved hop profile and a subtle warming character, at 7.7% alcohol by volume. Claymore will be available in six-packs and on draft through mid-April.

A very dark brown, almost beer beer. A head is medium and beige. Aroma has dark fruityness, earthyness, ryebread and some chocolate. Taste has breadyness, some ryebread, balanced sweetness, richness of malts, hint of chocolate. Not too sweet. Medium+ bodied, very smooth and enjoyable to drink. Warming in the throat. Rich and calm, malty beer.

Bottle. Pours an amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty spicy caramel aroma. Fruity malty spicy caramel flavor with weak hints of dark fruit. Has a fruity malty spicy caramel finish.

Bottle from Appellation Wines. Appearance - dark brown to black. It has a black olive sheen. Nose - light nuts and toffee. Taste - stronger hazelnut thing, soft toffee all the way through. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long balanced finish. Overall - a good example of the style, even if nothing too special.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a dark amber with small beige head. The aroma is molasses, caramel, raisin. Thick body, caramel, light roast, nice sweetness with burnt sugar finish, very good.

355ml bottle from Appellation Wines, Dalry Road. Pours clear dark brown with a short-lived thin tan head. Kinda like cola. Aromas of treacle, earthy notes, maybe leather? Taste is similar, treacle, liquorice, earthy. Sweet finish.

Bottle from The Beerhive and can from Beer Cave. Dark brown body with ruby highlights and a thin head that fades quickly. Patchy lacing. Aroma of treacle, prune, Marmite and brown sugar. Flavour of syrup, toffee and earth. Medium body with an oily mouthfeel. Soft fizz. Mega sweet and sugary.

Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from Greg & Jane’s Beer and Wine. Aroma is roasted malts/toffee with notes of espresso bean chocolate and coffee. Appearance is deep, dark mahogany (black unless light source behind) with nice sparkle, 1/2 finger-width beige head with poor retention and minimal lacing. Taste is caramel/toffee with hints of chocolate and dark fruit. Palate is medium bodied with creamy, thin texture, soft carbonation until late liveliness, mix of sweet and bitter long finish. Overall, a nice brew consistent with style but leaning toward Porter or Stout.

Claymore scotch ale A ruby mahogany with a malty (pumpernickel?) bready aroma. Full malty sweet with a bit of a bite: caramel, fudge and bitter greens. Alright.
