This dangerously drinkable garnet beauty is a hop lover’s delight. The intense dry-hop nose and the alcohol content are perfectly balanced for a caramel malt backbone. This is a serious beer for serious beer aficionados. Oink!

Clear amber color, medium off-white head. Aroma is sweet, very hoppy, quite fruity, pine, maply syrup probably, blossom. Quite bitter taste, sweet bitter, toffee, some bubblegum, bit alcohol. Slight alcoholic aftertaste, bittersweet. Unusual beer.

22oz bottle - Pours lightly hazy copper with a medium sized diminishing head. The nose has some mild caramel malt notes and lots of citrus hops presence, which is a good indicator of the flavor. This is a hoppy beast of a barley wine. But then if you read the label before drinking, you saw the 100 IBUs note and know that ahead of time. There’s enough malt to give it a good, solid body and provide some balance. It’s not at all hot like some barley wines are. I thought the hops kind of ran over everything else, but it’s still very good.

Without the label, I would have called this a Double IPA. It isn’t as thick as I usually expect a barleywine to be. The aroma is good, lots of citrus-hop aroma with some sweet malt and sugar. Flavor is a balance of intensely sweet malt and bitter hops. It could probably use some age to cut down on the sugar.

Ruby/dark amber with a beautiful, but small tan head. Big, if not too complex, nose with peach, citrus, some alcohol and some malt and wood. Sweet flavour with a nice hop attack some alcohol and a long lasting hoppy bitterness. I’ll have to see if I can keep one in the cellar for a few years.

Deep amber with fine thick lasting white head. Aroma and taste of malts (caramel), alcohol & hops/citrus. Malty sweetness that balances ok with the bitterness.. Filling body/texture. Easy warmth from alcohol. Lasting power hoppy finish....Long bitter bite! Great!

Aged 1 year. Pours a clear, deep amber into a snifter. Off-white micro head with good retention leaves spotty lacing. Orange pez and caramel aromas. Smooth and creamy caramel with a lasting, bitter alcohol finish.

Mahogany-pine cherry color. The resiny piney hoppy nose has hints of lemon and turpentine. Resiny, hoppy mouth with a touch chocolate and sherry. Dry bitter finish. Nose was nice, but complexity is lacking. However, alcohol well hidden.

Poured an orange color with a slightly off white creamy looking head. Aroma is hoppier than one might expect, wheaty and sweet. Sticky in the mouth, with a sweet, sugary flavor that has honey notes. Finish is clean and at the very end you can feel the heavy alcohol. Just average for a barleywine, but better than a normal beer. Rerate, 5/13/2008. Served at the Brickskeller’s Lupulin Reunulin. Adam Avery was there talking about this brew and mentioned that it was their only beer brewed with 100% Columbus hops. He also mentioned, "this beer smells like marijuana." Pours a transparent amber brown with a thin, spitty white head. Appearance gets a 3. Aroma is spicy, fiery, with cinnamon, flowers and pine. Aroma gets a 7. Flavor is very malty with brown sugar, honey and orange peel. Flavor gets an 8. Bitterness comes in hard at with some residual sweetness as well. Finish gets a 4. Good vintage, fiery but well rounded. Overall I rated it a 15 the second time.
