90 Shilling is our smooth and complex flagship beer. A medium-bodied amber ale with a distinct burnished copper color and a deeply pleasant aroma. The name 90 Shilling comes from the Scottish method of taxing beer. Only the highest quality beers were taxed 90 Shillings. We think you’ll find this original ale brilliantly refreshing, and worth every Shilling.

Bottle from Alesela, Glasgow, Scotland
Toffee brown...hazy...frothy white head dissipated to thin layer
Aroma - caramel malts..light grassy hops
Taste - nutty caramel malts..some grassy hops...bitter hops background....light toffee..quite pleasant but rather simple
Palate - soft to medium carb...medium body...light bitter spicy tang on palate. Finish - nutty malts...light grassy..rapid finish cleans well
Overall - Bit boring to be honest...needs more sweet malts to be a true scotch ale and is too hoppy for the style

On tap at Farley’s in Las Cruces. Pours dark copper with a thin off-white head. The aroma is caramel, some roasted malts and spicy and earthy hops. The flavor is very sweet with a mild hop bitterness coming forward in the finish. The palate is medium, syrupy and fairly effervescent, with a faint bitter aftertaste. Overall, this is a subdued but quality beer.

This ale poured a deep amber colour with a quick living, soapy, off white colour head. To the nose there are scents of ripe fruit, caramel malt, floral hops and apples. First taste was smooth and slightly watery with medium carbonation. Very malty flavour with other flavours of flowers, grass and light citrus. Finish is lightly bitter with a pancake syrup flavour lingering.

On tap at Falling Rock. Pours with a clear amber body with a tan head. Aromas are cereally, grainy, caramel, lightly bready. A touch of ester and mild smoke. Pretty clean overall. Flavors are malty, rainy, cereal and bready. A bit bitter for the style. Medium bubbles with a nice roundness.
