The name 90 Shilling comes from the Scottish method of taxing beer. Only the highest quality beers were taxed 90 Shillings. We think you’ll find this original ale brilliantly refreshing, and worth every Shilling.

Weak woody aroma. Clear copper, thick yellow head. A little tinny. Nice caramel and dried leaves flavor. Perhaps a bitter wood finish. Somewhere between a typical American amber and a proper English bitter, which is about right for a Scottish ale. Sessionable and not hoppy, true to style.

Bottle at home - Apr ’12. Copper to amber in colour with a medium sized foam cap. Bready malts on the nose, a little caramel and muted hops. Not a lot going. Sweet caramel malt dominates the taste allied to a little resin hops, bread and a little fruit. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation, smooth and clean. Whelmed!

355ml bottle. Clear dark amber colour with small to average lacing off-white head. Grainy aroma, a bit earthy, straw, a touch of boiled eggs. Taste is minimally sweet malty, grainy background, bread, "fluid hay"; very soft palate.

Bottle: poured a coppery red with a tan cream head. Sweet leafy malt aroma. Taste is roasted malt and light hops. Finish sticky sweet on my tongue.

Bottled 355ml. -Sampled almost 10 months after BBE date but without any trace of infection. Unclear amber coloured, medium sized pale beige head, dusty malty nose. Sweet malty, caramel and some fruits with notes of hops in the finish. Bit too sweet but never mind.

12oz bottle from Westholme Stores, Goring. Pours dark amber with a ring of white head; rich orangey malt aroma; orangey flavour with a heavy malty body; and a light bitterness to finish with a breath of warming alcohol. A good reproduction of the classic Scottish style.
