2013 Bottle: Deep ruby and violet tinted amber coloured body with a rich glow of brown and a fast-dying single centimetre tall light brown head. Aroma of pure richness - alcohol, oak, vanilla, bourbon, figs, toffee, prunes, raisins, oak, hops and way more alcohol - very nice and smells like a nicely oaked barley wine. Full-bodied; Super rich malt body with grain presence, some bourbon and brandy notes and a lot of vanilla and dry cedar notes throughout - the taste pulls in flavours from every direction. Aftertaste is quite dry with more alcohol than before, but with a introspective note - more of the oak comes out with less sugar, some shallow hops and a bit of hop finish - nice. Overall, a very nice beer throughout with an amazing complexity that really ranges from the nose to the taste to the finish - this one surprises all around, but shows pretty much what you’d expect - although, I’d classify this as a barley wine and not an imperial ipa. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Arlington (Clarendon), Virginia on 24-October-2013 for US$3,49 before the last Marine Corps Marathon, but sampled it in celebration of running a marathon today in Maryland on 29-November-2014.

This was poured into a snifter.
The appearance seemed just a tad darker than the regular BHM with a two finger white foamy head that dissipated within about two minutes.
There was some light foamy lacing sliding into the beer.
The smell had the grapefruit/citrusy aspect from the regular BHM along with a light pine, but the oak came in very subtly and made the aroma sit extremely fine under my nose.
The taste was really nice and sweet letting a nice pine underneath to balance it a bit.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium in body with a sessionability that was slightly there. The carbonation was fairly smooth.
Overall, I say this was a pretty good DIPA that I’d be willing to have again.

4oz poured at Churchkey. Thanks to GenDV138! Poured a ruby color with an off-white head. Aroma was caramel notes, slight nutty character. Flavor was dark fruits, some caramel, roasted coffee notes. Oak and vanilla. Smooth and enjoyable.

4 ounce draft pour at ChurchKey. Ruby/amber color with off-white head. Aromas of caramel, dark fruit, nutty notes. Tastes of dark fruit, oak, caramel, coffee, roast, toast, light coconut. Medium-light body with a dry finish. Pretty enjoyable.

Sampled on draft at 3R6P this beer poured a plum-brown color with a medium sized foamy tan head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was toffee, pine, resin and leather. The flavor was bitter with a sour caramel note, toffee, wood, smoke, fig, pine, resin, leather and noted alcohol. Long finish of toffee, caramel, fig, resin, leather and booze. Moderately full bodied. Pretty tasty.

This brew is a dark brownish-amber color with a medium thick light beige head that diminishes gradually. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of piney hops, oak and malt. Full-bodied with flavors of resiny hops, earthy malt and oak. The finish is oaky with a lingering piney hops aftertaste. Solid beer all around.
