IPA Brewed with Rye

Serious hop bitterness, along with an unyielding grapefruit bouquet from the Amarillo dry hop, balances the malty richness of four varieties of imported Belgian caramel malts. Pours a spectacular crimson with a creamy tan head. A generous addition of rye malt accentuates a spicy, crisp finish.

Draft. Earthy and bitter hops. A good bit of herbal spice. I’m pretty sad this is going to seasonal instead of year round.

Love this one. Pours red with medium lacing. Aroma is off the hook. Fruity punch with everything from tangerine to passion fruit. Medium carbonation. Experience slows down in taste, but leaves some sweetness and bitterness on the leave. Tap at brewpub.

Bottle at the DoG pub, Williamsburg, VA. Deep orange with a big, off-white head. Citrus hops, with some decent orange fruit, spicy grains and a lingering, dry finish. Very good.

From a 12 oz bottle shared at home. Pours a hazy reddish brown with a white head. Nice fruity hop aroma. Grapefruit zest, nuts and grain in the flavor. Bitter finish.

I have enjoyed many of these before I got around to rating it. This is a "go to" beer for me to stock in my fridge. I enjoy IPAs and the rye offers a nice flavor twist on the style. It has many of the IPA attributes: citrus taste, hoppiness, but the bitterness is tempered by the rye.

Poured from a 12oz bottle (Mar ’12) into a tulip glass to a reddish-copper colour - pretty hazy and hard to see through with a thinnish white head that soon turned to a small puddle atop the glass. On the nose I get hops, citrus, pine, sweet caramel and spiced up rye! Great hop presence up front with an earthy-dryish feel, slightly sweet/malty in the background and a pinch of spice. Medium bodied with a bitter-dry finish leaving a number of great flavours in your mouth - best aspect of this beer in my opinion ! Overall - a great great beer, hoppy, sweet, bitter-dry - top stuff !

35,5 cl bottle @ Olutravintola Konttori. Rated on 20.11.2010
Aroma is somewhat malty and a bit stale with hops and fruits. Flavour has hops, exotic fruits, some sweetish malt and hints of resin. Good.

Draft @ When Pigs Fly. Dark red color with thin white head. Light retention. Nose is a combination of spicy rye and caramel malt. Taste begins with caramel malts and citrus with a good amount of rye spice. Finishes with mildly lingering rye bitterness. It’s a really well balanced brew with the hops/ rye with the malt. Medium carbonation and body. If you enjoy rye, this beer will not let you down.
