Standing 12 ft. tall at the center of the brew deck is our HopBack vessel, where whole-flower hops swirl in hot wort and open up this deep amber with layers of grapefruit and pinesap. Crystal, Munich and Pilsner malts harmonize to add a complex balance of chewy caramel and toffee notes.

Keg at Munich Taphouse, squeezed a mini session into 15 minutes, before catching plane, 24th July 14, this was mixed in rapid succession with Nugget Nectar and 3 Floyds Pantzer Wolf, tough acts to follow, however this is solid and a pleasant amber.

I had this in a pint glass.
The appearance was a gentle dark amber color with a nice level foamy one finger head with an adequate foamy lacing sticking finely to the sides of the glass.
The smell had a decent amount of caramel malts up front and lets a gentle amount of bitter citrus hops coming in slightly as the beer warmed.
The taste was bitter and sweet ranging at somewhat different times but ends up combining more as the beer warmed. The aftertaste was really nice as it was pure bittersweetness altogether. The finish was somewhat dry but still had a nice backing by the hops and malts.
On the palate, it sat about a medium in body and had a decent sessionable quality to it.
Overall, I say this was a pretty good American Amber well worthy of having again.

12oz bottle. Filtered orange-copper body. Foamy, frothy off-white head. A pretty decent amber, but not really hoppy enough to put hop in the title if you ask me. Still pretty much a malt showcase, with a decent amount of depth attached to the amber malt. Caramel malt. Pretty decent Amber I guess.

Not sure why this is rated that high. A relic of years past when this sort of slightly hoppy amber was groundbreaking. Pours red with OK head and lacing. Soft carbonation. Some stale hops with a very light citrus dose. Light bitter finish. Tap at a Caps game - I’m just happy I’m not drinking bud light.

Draught @ Fire Works, Arlington, VA. Pours clear light amber with stable white head. Faint aroma of nothing with a little bit of something, perhaps hops. Faint.,slightly bitter flavour of hops and yeast. Rather bitter and metallic aftertaste. OK but nothing revolutionary.

Draft sample at Rustico, Alexandria. Pours clear amber with cream head. Aroma of malt, fruity hops, citrus, caramel and grapefruit. Flavour is moderate sweet and over moderate bitter. Medium bodied with light carbonation. Nice brew.

Bottle as shown. Pours a cloudy gold with small off white head. The aroma is stron floral hop and caramel. Thin mouthfeel with sweet hop and light bitterness in the finish. Easy to drink, very good.

On tap at ACBF 6/1/2013 Dry hopped with cascade and server out of a cask. Deep amber/copper color. lots of spice and citrus aroma. Light bready flavor with caramel and toffee and lots of old school citrus. Nice beer.
