Hommelbier from Poperinge was brewed for the first time in 1981, for the triennial hop festival in the village. Hommel is local dialect for hops, and was the inspiration for the name of this tribute to Poperinge’s most famous export product. Since then, Poperinge’s Hommelbier has earned quite a reputation for itself with beer fans around the world, for its unique style, brewed with 100% hops from Poperinge.
Deze ‘Golden Ale’ heeft een stevige witte schuimkraag die uitnodigt om de geur van groene hop, gist en lichte fruittoetsen te ontdekken. Na een volle en verfrissende kruidige smaak verandert het pallet naar lichte citrus, sinaasappel en pompelmoes, ondersteund door de hop. De honingzachte afdronk laat een licht kruidige komijnsmaak uitlopen op een volle hopsmaak.

cloudy golden colour, huge, long lasting white head - perfect appearance! aroma of yeast and candy sugar; perfectly ballanced candy sugar taste and hoppy bitterness with herbal aromas. considering its low price, one of the best value for money rate.

flesje 25cl, volledig uitgeschonken vlokkerig/troebel goud van kleur met flinke witte kraag, welke snel slinkt. aroma: heerlijk frisse geuren van gras, koriander, hoppig, bloemen. smaak: zeer stevige kruidig en hoppig, verder citrus, peper, koriander en gist. medium body, glad mondgevoel, normale co2, kruidig/bittere afdronk. lekker.

Aroma has grassy hops, some nettles and Belgian yeast. Flavour is rather strong on grassy hops, some fruits, Belgian yeast and hints of nettles. Quite hoppy for a Belgian ale and not my thing.

Aroma is sweetish with citrus, grassy hops and smooth fruitiness. Flavour has soapy citrus, grassy hops, peaches and sweetish fruity tones. Foamy palate. Alcohol starts to come through at the end of the glass. Not as hoppy as I remembered, or then the bottle was just older.

Pours clear golden with a white head. Aroma has notes of malt, wheat, yeast and sugar. Taste is medium to heavy sweet and light to medium bitter with a long bready, caramel finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Smells a little bit like saison, a little floral hops with blond Belgian yeast. Some alcohol gives it a little bitterness. Not huge palate, nothing extraordinary - just a very drinkable Belgian ale. On tap at Blue Monk.

Bottle at home (Noel Cuvelier) - 20/10/12. Clear golden with a thin off white head which soon clears to spotting atop the glass. Nose comprises (Belgian) yeast, hops, citrus and a touch of honey and spice. Taste follows - light hops, citrus tones, grassy notes. Medium bodied with a bitter dry finish.

Grassy aroma and flavor on this beer. This is straight from the hops growing region of Belgium, but the hops aren’t overdone. This is very smooth for a Belgian Ale, no bite to it, but still very good.

0.25l bottle. This one pours a light blurry golden one with a medium sized white almost fluffy head that stick around for a while. It smells light floral and metallic. Like in coins. That's a bit weird I guess? Also, there are tones of alcohol and some dry flour hints. It has a lively carbonation level and a average oily mouthfeel. The flavor has a mild alcohol touch all the way, light hoppy with some more floral touches. I also find some green apples and white sugar. Yeah, not bad, but definitely not to memorable either. 08.06.2012
