Hommelbier from Poperinge was brewed for the first time in 1981, for the triennial hop festival in the village. Hommel is local dialect for hops, and was the inspiration for the name of this tribute to Poperinge’s most famous export product. Since then, Poperinge’s Hommelbier has earned quite a reputation for itself with beer fans around the world, for its unique style, brewed with 100% hops from Poperinge.
Deze ‘Golden Ale’ heeft een stevige witte schuimkraag die uitnodigt om de geur van groene hop, gist en lichte fruittoetsen te ontdekken. Na een volle en verfrissende kruidige smaak verandert het pallet naar lichte citrus, sinaasappel en pompelmoes, ondersteund door de hop. De honingzachte afdronk laat een licht kruidige komijnsmaak uitlopen op een volle hopsmaak.

bottle ( 33 cl ) at home and at work. this is a sweet ale, blond, nothing realy special but ok. fo the price you pay for it, its definatly good, but its not something i would seek or go to a bar for. . dont rely get the fuzz about this n, yet it aint bad.. Rerate Bottle at paters vaetje Pours fuzzy yellow small white head Smell is heavy on malts Thick malty taste , soft bitterness , bit green . No aroma hops Ok

25 cl. bottle @ home, bought in Nijmegen. Golden yellow with some floating yeast specks and a white head. Sort of ’Belgian blonde’ aroma with some more hops. Spicy, flowery taste with some pine. Some noticable alcohol but not too offensive. Decent but not unforgettable Belgian ale.

25 cl. bottle poured in to a tulip. Hazy, golden-orange colour with a big, white head that fades to fluffy clouds of foam. Fruity aroma with floral hops, citrus, grasses, hay and those, nice Belgian fruity yeasts. Taste is light sweet and fruity, but with those hops lurking in the background. Medium body with a creamy texture, lively carbonated. Nice finish with sweet exotic fruits and bitterness from the hops. Well made beer!

Bottle shared at the Fiddler. Pouts clear golden with a white head. Aroma is yeasty, fruit and spice. Flavour is light sweet and bitter, bready and strong spice. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Purchased months ago at Fox & Obel in Chicago, IL with the help of a Groupon, enjoyed while watching Game 1 of the NBA Finals. Appearance is a murky, fruit juice like cloudy orange with a thin bubbly white head. Aroma of Belgian yeast, pepper, bit of grass, touch of citrus fruit, bit of wheat, very \"nature\" like. Taste is smooth, yeast is the prominent ingredient, there is a bit of bitterness from the hops which I typically do not get from this style. It’s also chewy with moderate thickness, low/med carbonation. Pretty good stuff, surprisingly. I didn’t know much about this when I bought it, happy that I did.

330 ml bottle into chalice, best by 4/2013. Pours extremely peppery cloudy golden amber color with a nice 1-2 finger dense off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice thick cap that lasts. Some nice thick soapy lacing on the glass, with a good amount of carbonation streaming up. Aromas of big lemon, pepper, herbal, grass, apple, bread, orange, apricot, earth, slight funkiness, and big yeast spiciness. Very nice aromas with good balance, strength, and complexity. Taste of big lemon, orange, pepper, grass, pear, herbal, bread, banana, earth, apricot, and yeast spices. Nice amount of earthy spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, light fruits, pepper, herbal, grass, bread, and yeasts spices on the finish for a good bit. Really great balance of spicy flavors with sweetness; with a very nice amount of complexity. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a slightly creamy and extremely crisp mouthfeel that is very nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with pretty much no warming noticed at all after the finish. Very easy to drink due to the great flavor balance. Overall this is a fantastic Belgian IPA! Great flavor balance and complexity; and extremely smooth. I will be having this again.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy yellow orange with a small white head. The aroma is fruit and citrus hop. Thin mouthfeel with a sour fruit and light hop flavor and crisp finish. Easy to drink a very good Belgian strong ale from Van Eecke.
