Brewed with well water (the original well at the Old Brewery, sunk in 1758, is still in use, with the hard well water being drawn from 85 feet underground); best barley malt, yeast and aromatic hops; fermented in ‘stone Yorkshire squares’ to create a relatively dry ale with rich nutty colour and palate of beech nuts, almonds and walnuts.

Clear reddish amber colour, off-white head. Slightly sweet aroma, caramel, roasted nuts, light mocha, the brown skin around a walnut and light hops. Light sweet flavour, light bitter roasted malts, caramel, hops. Light hoppy finish, roasted malts, bit bitter, nutty.
Very enjoyable brown ale, not overly sweet, some room for hops. I thought I wasn’t a fan of the style, but this is more than decent.

Bottle at Glasshouse Stores, London. It pours deep reddish brown with a massive beige head. The nose is nut, toast, leather, wood and caramel. The taste is bitter-sweet, toast, light roast, wood, leather, nut, caramel and earth, with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Good flavour and balance. A solid nut brown ale.

Bouteille 500ml. Couleur brun rouge limpide, mousse crème durant assez longtemps, laisse une belle dentelle. Arôme de sucre brun, de noix et de banane. Goût de sucre brun, de noix, de banane avec une légère amertume. Carbonation plutôt faible.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Ariel’s place. Thanks Tom. Deep reddish amber color with a beige head. Aroma of malt, nuts, caramel, biscuit hints and a bit of fruitiness. Sweetish malt flavor with nuts, some caramel, a light chocolate hint, a fruity touch and a drier finish. Medium-bodied.

Dobre brytyjskie brown ale. Spora piana mało gazu, tak jak powinno być w prawdziwych real ale. Brązowy kolor z lekkimi refleksami czerwieni. Karmelowo i lekko gożkie piwo

550 ml bottle. Bright reddish brown color topped by a thick bubbly tan head. Buttery toasted malt aroma hints at malt vinegar and baked walnut bread. Dryish toasted malt flavor upfront; close your eyes and take a sip, you can almost taste the pecan-like nuances. Tangy malt/hop midtaste that goes down smooth and creamy. Tart dry hop finish lasts long after the last sip. An outstanding brown ale from "The Old Brewery".
