Small offwhite head. Clear amber body. Papery earthy aroma with strawy notes. Sweet raisiny spicy taste with herbal notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dryish mealy dried fruit aftertaste with carraway and caramel notes. Interesting. (0.5l bottle, from Stockmann, Riga.)

Bottle brought from Latvia and as I heard, it was selected because of a dog picture on a label. Yep, dog seems to be standing on top of a stool, looking towards the ’i’ letter (looks like a tap) in the word DUMPIS - trying to catch some beer drops. When I look closer it seems to be a lamb and not a dog, with a bell around her neck and everything. Or maybe it is a dog with a lamb’s face, who knows. Design is good. The colour is a bit darker than usual lager, reminding me some rye beers that I’ve had. Can I find rye in this? Rugdais - rye? There isn’t much foam and the little it had disappears within a minute, leaving only a couple of bubbles left. Smell is fresh malts, not very complicated nor multilevelled, just a good malt aroma. Maybe a bit more bread in there, a little bit of roast caramel. First taste is simple but feels whole, then some bread kicks in and finally a lightly bitter note keeps lingering on the tongue. Pleasant. Actually quite drinkable beer, good for sessions and perfect for sauna (which is where I am sampling it). It does not display too special characteristics and can be drunk for thirst. At the same time it is definitely not some water-diluted drink that could be expected from a large brewery but it is a lot more interesting. Is it really a rye beer? For this I would expect a bit more sourness than can not be detected in this beer. Googled the beer later, mainly for trying to find out about the rye thing - didn’t find anything on that - but learned a bit about the beers concept. Apparently beer’s name means "bitter revolution" and the beer is supposed to be designed in a way it would look as from a small craft-brewery and not from a large brewery. It is a good beer (not perfect though) and I would definitely enjoy having it again.
