Existent represents the philosophy behind Stillwater Artisanal. We strive to define ourselves through our passion and sincerity while accepting that not all aspects of life are readily explainable. To manifest this ideology we present an ale of intrigue. Deep & dark though deceptively dry, braced by a firm yet smooth bitterness and accented with an earthy hop and mild roast aroma. This is an ale for you to define..

ACBF. Very dark brown - black beer. Small tan head. Light dry palate. A little dark malt and coffee. Trace of licquorish spice before the now familar chalky dryness from this brewer kicks in. Flavour is good but really struggling with the palate again - just strips every last drop of moisture in your mouth away!

0.75l bottle @ Henrik, Bergen shared with ClubGonzo. This pours a deep brown near black body with a small tanned head. Really nice aroma with strong licorice, hops, yeast, leafs and a acidic note that wraps it all together. The body has a really slick, sick and silky smooth texture that completely vanishes (vaporizes *poff* it's gone) two seconds after hitting the tongue without me having anything to say in the matter. The first self-swallowing beer I've had. The carbonation is soft. Taste is first coffee and some licorice combined with a dry-fruitiness and a faint alcohol-note hidden in the texture. Slightly sweet (not like a school girl but the other way). Then it changes personality and goes more sour and yeasty (this time more like a school girl) combined with a herbal white-sage finish. Quite different and strange, and especially that freaky body made this a interesting experience.

Bottle, 75cl, at Patricks. It pours a small, dark beige head over a dark, dark brown body. The aroma has a yeasty touch, but is mostly roasted and with some fruityness. Some hints of dried fruits and a hint of coffee. It’s smooth and full-bodied, nicely carbonated. The flavor sort of reminds me of a roasted Orval although not as pronounced as an Orval neither on the hops nor on the funk. A quite lovely one, roasted and pleasant. Wouldn’t mind more of this. 110331

Pours black with dark brown highlights. The head is a tight tan cap. Some lacing. The aroma is dark bread, caramel, coffee, citrus hops, pears and some background saison yeastiness. It’s dominated by fruity/bready dark malt flavors. The hops and yeast are only present in supporting roles. The beer tastes rather sweet. It starts with some full sugary sweetness and transitions to a slightly less sweet coffee/dark fruit flavor. The finish is mildly bitter with roast and hops. The mouthfeel is smooth with oddly low carbonation for Stillwater. There’s some discoloration on the lip of this bottle, so this could be the result of a cap problem. It kinda works for the beer, but it does make things a bit thin and mildly cloying.

Funky bark and leather aroma. Cloudy brown, medium yellow head. Very leathery currant with musty bark toward the end. Faint chocolate notes. Disappointing when compared to Stillwater’s saisons. Not awful and not infected, but very average.

On tap. Pours a warm brown with a reddish hue and a creamy beige head. Roasted, spicy nose. Medium-bodied, notes of dry fruit, brown sugar, roasted malts and a yeasty edge. Wee acidic touch. Ends with a discreet malt bitterness. Nice. 140311

Draft. A dark red-brown beer with a lazing tan head. The aroma has notes of malt, caramel, wood, soy sauce, and brown sugar. The flavor is sweet with notes of bread, malt, caramel, roasted malt, qnd chocolate, leading to a dry chocolaty finish.
