Existent represents the philosophy behind Stillwater Artisanal. We strive to define ourselves through our passion and sincerity while accepting that not all aspects of life are readily explainable. To manifest this ideology we present an ale of intrigue. Deep & dark though deceptively dry, braced by a firm yet smooth bitterness and accented with an earthy hop and mild roast aroma. This is an ale for you to define..

’and if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.’ –Nietzsche

Bottle. Body is a cola-like brown and supports a big and fluffy tan head that dies down to lacing and a half finger or so of head during the walk upstairs. Aromas are fairly mild... A bit of a cola dark malt presence and grain dust is about all I’m picking up on. Flavor is much more interesting. A nice mix of lemon and chocolate with a little bit of a tangy funk to it. This is a very interesting combination, to say the least. Mouthfeel is middle of the road... Almost like a black lager or something as far as how it slides across the palate.

Trocken malziger Beginn, wenig fruchtig. Starke Karbonisierung, eher langweilig, etwas bitter. Ok aber irgendwie unbedeutend. /8/8/7//7

Bottle at "30 år av surt", on May 5, 2012 in Göteborg.

Sampled on draft at The House of 1000 Beers this beer poured a black color with a small creamy tan head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was dryish and roasty with wood and vanilla elements. The flavor was dry, bitter and moderately roasty with notes of anise, wood smoke and raisin. The finish was long, dry and roasty with lingering wood, smoke and anise. Moderately full bodied. Disappointing.

Dark brown color, steady beige head. Riped fruits, caramel and chocolate in the aroma. Medium-bodied. Chocolate, some hops, caramel, some wood and maybe a bit Bretta-like wild yeast. Tasty.

Bottled:
Clear, dark brown colour. Large, thick head. Aroma is chocolate and sourish, dark berries. Slightly roasted, malty flavour followed by a boozy bitterness; tastes almost like a Doppelbock. Not very complex and rather shallow.

Bottle. Almost clear, deep brown liquid with medium to big, firm cappuccino head. Aroma of chocolate, toasted malt, coffee, spices, earthy hops and nuts. Taste is dry, light to medium bitter and quite roasted with some spicy farmhouse notes. Medium bodied with good carbonation. Feels very much like a stout, but really nice still.

75 cl bottle @ home, no BBE info
Weird and stale aroma with some spices, flowery notes and licorice. Foamy palate. Slightly sour flavour is also rather unique with berries, flowery notes and some licorice. Rich finish. Good, but a bit too spicy.
