22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 11/26/2012. Pours dense pitch black color with a 1 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, fudge, caramel, toffee, roasted malt, light coffee, toast, light vanilla, and roasted earthiness. Fantastic aromas with great balance and complexity of dark chocolate and dark/roasted malt notes; with great strength. Taste of dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, fudge, toffee, roasted malt, light coffee, toast, light vanilla, light herbal, and roasted earthiness. Fair amount of roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, fudge, caramel, toffee, roasted malt, light coffee, light vanilla, light herbal, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible balance, robustness, and complexity of chocolate and dark/roasted malt flavors; with a great sweetness/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a creamy, slick, and lightly chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is fairly well hidden with only a small warming present after the finish. Overall this is an outstanding chocolate imperial stout. All around awesome balance and complexity of chocolate and dark/roasted malt flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

2012 bottling from the cellar Black pour with a decent mocha head. Chocolate bar aroma. The flavor is dominated again, by the chocolate which has a subdued sweetness and a dusty finish. Very nice.

A dark roasted chokolate flavor with sweetness and some bitterness in the aftertaste. A creamy mouthfeel. Surpricingly light to drink for a heavy beer. Very dark brown with a light brown head.

I picked this bottle at Asahiya as part of my Valentine’s Chocolate beer tasting and finally got around to opening it (who knew there were that many Chocolate beers!). It poured a dark black with red tints & a burnt orange head of foam. It has a fantastically rich chocolate aroma! It had a rich smooth taste which reminded me of chocolate milk or a milkshake which had a bitter burnt chocolate finish with hints of coffee. It is a great chocolate beer with a complex flavor profile of many kinds of chocolate (dark, bitter, milk, sweet). It’s my new favorite chocolate beer!

Draft @ Thirsty Moose Tap House. Served in a snifter. Pitch black with thin tan head having good retention. Very chocolaty. Deep rich notes of mocha, cake batter and fudge. Taste is heavy sweet chocolate heavily with hints of coffee and molasses on the back end. The alcohol is not apparent and covered up in chocolate. I only noticed it after the snifter was empty. It’s sweet but not cloying. Texture is oily with a full body. Highly drinkable chocolate Imperial Stout. Big, bold and really damn tasty! Yet if you’re having a 22 oz. bomber you really may want to share this as an after dinner brew.
